Description When thousands of time entries must be right, good leadership makes the difference.
As a Fiscal Analyst 5 with Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) Facilities, Technology and Analytics Administration (FTAA), you'll lead time and attendance operations supporting Western State Hospital. Your team will help ensure employees' time, leave, and premium pay are recorded accurately while meeting payroll deadlines. You'll also help shape how the work is divided, managed, and eventually moved to a new timekeeping system.
The challenge is keeping the work moving when the clock is running.
At the end of each pay period, your team has roughly three days to process 20,000-25,000 entries. You'll manage coverage, resolve missing or incorrect entries, review reports, and work with supervisors to meet deadlines. You'll also navigate three collective bargaining agreements, each with rules that affect time, attendance, and pay.
We encourage you to apply if you understand timekeeping and enjoy helping people succeed. You can interpret complex rules, organize work under tight deadlines, and address problems directly. You know how to set expectations, coach staff, and build trust with leaders across an organization.
Your first 90 days are about learning the operation and earning trust. You'll get to know your team, understand the three bargaining agreements, learn the payroll process, and build relationships with hospital leadership. You'll also identify where errors, delays, or coverage gaps need attention.
Within your first year, success means a team that meets payroll deadlines, resolves discrepancies, and is better prepared for the transition to a new timekeeping system.
There's flexibility outside work, too.
This is a hybrid position based in Tacoma, with at least two days each week in the office. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tacoma offers waterfront parks, Puget Sound recreation, and access to outdoor activities, although traffic and housing costs are worth considering. The work location is expected to move to Western State Hospital when the new facility opens in 2028.
