As our
Drafting Production Manager, you are an experienced people leader with strong technical knowledge of Alberta residential construction and a practical approach to managing production. You know how to set clear expectations, balance competing priorities, and support a team in delivering accurate, permit-ready and buildable drawing packages.
Reporting to the
General Manager of Operations, you will lead approximately
12-16 architectural technologists and production drafters supporting our single-family homebuilding operations. You will also contribute to the broader Shane Homes management team, working closely with other departments to keep information, decisions and drawing packages moving smoothly from sale through construction.
You bring a calm, accountable leadership style and create urgency while keeping your team focused and supported. Your success comes from building a capable team, strengthening processes, and delivering consistent results.
What You'll Be Responsible For:- Lead and develop your team: Set priorities, clarify responsibilities, coach employees, recognize strong contributions, and address performance gaps promptly and fairly.
- Manage production workflow: Oversee work from intake and assignment through check sets, blacklines, revisions, permit packages, spec releases, additionals and final construction drawings.
- Keep delivery on track: Establish practical production targets, monitor progress, resolve bottlenecks, and communicate schedule risks before they affect construction.
- Balance workload and capacity: Match assignments to team capabilities, plan for absences and changing volumes, and maintain a reliable four-to-six-week capacity outlook.
- Maintain drawing quality: Strengthen technical reviews and quality controls to reduce recurring errors, permit comments and downstream rework.
- Provide technical guidance: Serve as a senior resource for Part 9 requirements under the National Building Code - Alberta Edition, along with municipal permitting requirements, developer controls and community standards.
- Collaborate across departments: Coordinate with Sales, Interior Design, Estimating, Purchasing, Construction, Land, Engineering, external consultants and municipal partners to support complete and timely drawing packages.
- Improve processes and technology: Refine drafting standards, templates, checklists, document control and reporting, while identifying practical opportunities for CAD/BIM tools and automation.
- Anticipate technical changes: Assess changes to codes, energy requirements, municipal interpretations and construction practices, and guide the team through the required adjustments.
