Please note that the Department of Corrections must verify proof of higher education for any degree earned (if applicable) regardless of vacancy title before any offer can be extended.Position OverviewIDOC is looking to hire a Corrections Industry Supervisor to supervise staff and instruct individuals in custody in the proper use of tools, equipment and materials utilized in the Knit Shop. In addition, this position coordinates the production of all orders, maintains quality control of all repair work performed, acts as staff assistant to Industry Superintendent in the overall operation, and reports infractions of rules. Essential Functions- Supervises staff.
- Instructs and directs individual in custody workers in the proper use of tools, equipment and materials utilized in the Knit Shop.
- Coordinates the production of all orders.
- Maintains quality control of all repair work performed.
- Acts as staff assistant to Industry Superintendent (Public Service Administrator) in the overall operation.
- Report infractions of rules in accordance with Administrative Directives.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years high school or completion of an approved training course.
- Requires two (2) years of supervisory experience in a field related to the position to be filled.
Preferred Qualifications- Prefers at least three (3) years of supervisory experience in a service and/or vocational training related industry.
- Prefers at least three (3) years of experience in quality control of finished products.
- Prefers at least three (3) years of experience in inventory management.
- Prefers at least three (3) years of experience in management of tools in a correctional setting.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in preventative maintenance of equipment.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience maintaining operational logistics.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience resolving problems with service orders and/or contracts with vendors.
Conditions of Employment- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
- Requires completion of an approved course in guard training within six (6) months of employment.
- Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.
- Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
- This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission. (See Executive Order 15-09) Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.
- Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
