Overview: 

Position Summary

MPORTANT POSITION LOCATION & DISCIPLINE

NOTE:

We are seeking to fill SIX Discipline Head positions, with one opening available within each of the following disciplines: ElectricalProcessPipingMechanicalCivil, and Instrumentation. These positions are required to be office-based and may be located in any of our approved office locations, including CharlestonWVMidlandMILouisvilleKYBaton RougeLA; or Houston, TX. Candidates MUST be able to work from one of these office locations.

 

The Discipline Head shall be responsible for planning, organizing, assigning and directing engineering resources on discipline-specific assignments and projects in support of designated project managers to ensure the project’s defined goals and objectives are accomplished within the prescribed timeframe and funding parameters. Duties shall include the administration of assigned employees within the discipline engineering group (including the identification of new employees), the development and application of work processes designed to ensure the quality of deliverables and the professional development of discipline personnel.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. All other duties as assigned.

Safety

  • Emphasize a continuous awareness of personal and design safety in the execution of daily task assignments by all discipline personnel. Ensure that individual work habits and methods, as they affect personal and design safety, are addressed as part of personnel performance reviews.
  • Work with safety to ensure that all discipline personnel assigned to client sites are oriented and trained on the site-specific safety requirements.

 

Technical

  • Provide technical engineering and design leadership in all areas of the specific discipline.
  • Encourage the identification and development of technically sound and economically feasible alternative solutions to client challenges.
  • Ensure all requirements for quality processes are satisfied. Develop and maintain an expectation of quality as an essential element of project success.
  • Solicit feedback on discipline engineer and designer work products. Develop and implement corrective actions where appropriate.
  • Lead or assist in the development and implementation of discipline-specific processes, procedures and practices to enhance execution of project activities and deliverables. Ensure that project-assigned discipline personnel support field assignments as required to meet project objectives.
  • Support the preparation of business proposals through personal assistance or by the assignment of qualified discipline personnel.
  • Support the development of Project Execution Plans.
  • Support the development of risk mitigation plans.
  • Ensure discipline personnel compliance with TCE guidelines and standards, including ISO – 9001 standards and the quality manual.

 

Administrative

  • Assign personnel and/or training resources as necessary to complete engineering and project assignments.
  • Emphasize customer satisfaction and overall project results on project assignments. Develop and communicate expectations for the execution of projects.
  • Review personnel to assess the progress of development and to establish developmental requirements.
  • Support business development activities and participate in sales presentations.
  • Coach and mentor assigned discipline personnel in the use of TCE procedures, guidelines and policies.
  • Have a working knowledge and understanding of project cost control. Ensure that all discipline personnel assigned to positions of responsibility on individual projects have a similar level of understanding. Perform periodic audits of project cost control efforts, and implement corrective actions as required.
  • Develop, maintain and apply standards for budget estimates.
  • Develop direct reports for the purpose of succession planning.
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Experience based on knowledge, skills, and abilities may qualify with the approval of the Business Unit Head.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or higher in science or engineering required.

Minimum of 10 years of experience in the industry with 5 years of supervisory experience or management role.

For engineering disciplines, a Professional Engineering license or defined and approved path to obtaining one is required.

Piping Discipline Head position may substitute four additional years of experience related to this industry in lieu of bachelor’s degree requirement.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS

Must be cognizant of the capabilities and limitations of various computer software packages and automated engineering and design equipment to effectively direct their use for diverse engineering assignments.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
