Overview

The Director of VBC Market Operations serves an operational leader accountable for driving the day-to-day performance of US Renal Care's value-based care programs. The Director builds and manages relationships with nephrologists, nephrology practice staff, and dialysis clinic teams. The Director collaborates internally with clinical, analytics, and other leaders to develop and drive strategies that deliver improved outcomes and reduced costs. The Director must be able to work effectively and collaboratively across all key internal and external stakeholders. They are comfortable in, and thrive in, ambiguous, fast-paced start-up environments.

Responsibilities

Job Duties
  • Ensures successful roll-out of overall VBC playbook with nephrology practices (risk adjustment; medical cost reduction, quality, alignment), tailoring and adapting /workflows as needed to fit with practices' unique set-ups
  • Partners closely with Clinical Operations Director and Associate CMO to establish and manage to market priorities.
  • Maintains processes that drive effective clinical operations, and to identify and solve market-specific barriers to performance
  • Partners closely with Risk Adjustment team to establish and maintain processes that drive effective risk adjustment.
  • Partners closely with Finance, Analytics, Product, Operations Excellence, and other teams to maintain a strong understanding of performance and to identify and implement tools and processes to improve performance.
  • Leads Monthly Operating Reviews for assigned key partners, escalating and addressing key clinical operations, risk adjustment, and other performance challenges
  • Owns financial P&L and performance metrics for practices
  • Establishes and leads an effective management process with practice, including bi-weekly meetings with practice administrators, quarterly performance reviews with practice physicians, and other management processes.
  • Takes the lead in developing agendas, minutes, and presentations for all practice facing meetings, working cross-functionally to build appropriate content
  • Develops close relationships with physician practice leaders and administrators, and is seen as a key resource to drive impact with the practice.
  • Develops close relationships with our dialysis teams, especially Regional Directors, Regional Vice presidents, Facility Administrators, and Home Dialysis leaders.
  • Is seen as the internal and external go-to resource for each assigned partnership (e.g., practice administrator, physician partners, colleagues across Kidneylink / US Renal Care)
  • Supports efforts to grow the network of participating physicians
  • Works effectively in a matrixed organizational structure in which you lead with influence and collaborate across various internal and external stakeholders to drive performance
  • Is comfortable effectively navigating ambiguity to create new approaches and solutions with internal and external partners
  • Directly manages an Operations Analyst (or analysts) who supports key activities and initiatives across assigned accounts

Key Performance Indicators include:
  • Optimal Dialysis Starts
  • Hospitalizations and Readmissions
  • Risk Adjustment visits
  • Provider engagement and physician satisfaction
  • Scope: generally 3-10 physician practices, 2,000-3,000 lives
  • Travel: generally 20-50% of the time for physician practice meetings and market / team meetings

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, master's degree in related field (e.g., MBA, MPH, MHA) preferred
  • Minimum of eight years of experience in health care preferred
  • Management consulting and/or process improvement backgrounds preferred
  • Experience in a start-up environment preferred
  • Experience with value-based care programs preferred
  • Experience managing physician relationships required
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills required
  • Regular travel, up to 50% of the time.
