Director, Risk Advisory - Global Payment Network
The Global Payment Network Director of Risk Advisory will perform a key risk management role for Capital One’s network and merchant businesses. They will be a key leader in the establishment and implementation of the risk management advisory function within one of the network schemes (i.e., PULSE, Discover Network, Diners Club International). The Director is a critical member of the risk management team responsible for delivering risk and compliance advice for business processes worldwide. They will serve as a subject matter expert for critical areas within one of GPN’s Schemes to ensure the business aligns with the Capital One’s broader enterprise risk management framework.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with first and second line functions to analyze the existing risk management program framework and applicability to the network and merchant services business; educate and influence risk management colleagues and leaders with respect to nuanced or specialized considerations, as necessary
- Utilizing subject matter expertise, provide advice and challenge on the risks impacting the network and merchant businesses through both formal and informal engagements
- Advising business leaders on regulatory requirements, policies, and industry standards
- Develop expert-level understanding of end-to-end network and merchant business processes worldwide
- Proactively identify trends in business data and demonstrate appreciation of network payments risks, including emerging and external risks
- Maintain subject matter expertise in the broader payments industry and applicable global laws and regulations
- Ensure ongoing application of compliance requirements to business expansions and new products, including as the network and merchant businesses engage with new downstream entities, evaluate new opportunities for card acceptance, global markets, or develop new products
- Develop strong relationships across the lines of defense, including Compliance, Legal, and Audit
- Display a passion for coaching and developing others through their leadership style and presence, whether as direct reports or extended team members
- Support regulatory exam and engagement preparation and delivery
- Manage, develop, and coach a Risk Advisory Team in support of their job responsibilities and to further their careers
- Participate in reporting activities to leadership in the business and Risk Management
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or military experience
- At least 8 years of legal, compliance, or risk management experience OR at least 8 years of regulatory experience in consumer financial services or payments industry
- At least 4 years of experience in people management
- At least 4 years of experience consulting with and presenting to executive leadership
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA), Finance, Risk Management, Information Systems, or a related analytical field.
- Proven experience in a first or second Line of Defense risk management role, with a strong track record of effectively challenging or responding to line of Defense business decisions across diverse lines of business (e.g., Card, Retail, Commercial, Payment Networks).
- Deep familiarity with US and international operational resilience and risk management regulatory standards (such as OCC Payment Systems Guidance, Payment Card Industry Compliance, NIST).
- Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP/MBCP)Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC)Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)Other operational risk or resilience designations.
- Experience leading data-driven risk analyses, building risk-based hypotheses, and translating complex technical data into clear, narrative-driven executive reports.

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $206,000 - $235,100 for Director, Risk Management
New York, NY: $224,800 - $256,500 for Director, Risk Management
Richmond, VA: $187,300 - $213,700 for Director, Risk Management
Riverwoods, IL: $187,300 - $213,700 for Director, Risk Management
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
