Director - Project Management

Position Overview

The Director of Project Execution is a high-level leadership role responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of Battery System Deployment & Project Management within the organization. This role leads a team of project managers and collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful planning, execution, and delivery of grid-scale projects - on time and on budget.

This position reports to the Sr. Director, Project Execution.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead and direct a project management team, ensuring efficient and effective execution of multiple large-scale and complex projects. Establish and oversee clear project objectives, deliverables, timelines, and budgetary requirements, and hold Project Managers accountable for overall project performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to conduct risk assessments for potential and current projects, considering technical, financial, contractual, and regulatory factors. Ensure Project Managers actively identify, manage, and escalate project risks.
  • Partner with Project Controls to establish and maintain project schedules, cost forecasts, and performance reporting. Ensure Project Managers own execution against the approved schedule and budget and take corrective action when performance deviates from plan.
  • Implement best practices and consistent project management standards to enhance execution efficiency and minimize risk.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Sales, Commercial, Project Controls, EPC, Commissioning, Legal, suppliers, contractors, and customers to drive successful project delivery.
  • Maintain strong communication with stakeholders to manage expectations, address concerns, and provide regular updates internally and externally.
  • Own project financial performance and ensure Project Managers actively manage their budgets, forecasts, contingency, and commercial exposure in partnership with Project Controls and Commercial.
  • Proactively address and escalate issues that arise during project execution and implement contingency and recovery plans as required.
  • Ensure projects meet industry standards, safety requirements, contractual obligations, and other applicable compliance requirements.
  • Stay abreast of the latest technologies, trends, and best practices in project execution and project management.
  • Review project performance metrics and forecasts provided through the Project Controls framework and drive corrective actions necessary to achieve project objectives.
  • Coach, develop, and performance-manage Project Managers and Portfolio Managers, building organizational capability and succession plans within the Project Management team.
  • Provide portfolio-level oversight, prioritization, and escalation across assigned projects, identifying systemic risks and issues requiring senior leadership intervention.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Project Management leadership for large, complex equipment and/or EPC deployments where schedule, cost, quality, and customer commitments are critical, with 5+ years of successful project leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated mastery of project execution planning, including schedule, budget, resource management, risk management, EHS, procurement, quality assurance, change management, and subcontract management.
  • Demonstrated history of successful customer relationship management at the executive level, including negotiation of critical contract terms, change-order resolution, risk management, and issue escalation.
  • Experience in grid-scale battery storage and/or other renewable energy industries strongly preferred. Experience in comparable complex project-based industries will also be considered.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate, develop, and guide a diverse team of project management professionals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong financial acumen and the ability to understand and drive project financial performance, including forecasting, margin, cash flow, and commercial risk.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Travel
  • This position requires approximately 25-35% travel annually.
