About the Role

Applied Materials is seeking an experienced Director of Process Support Engineering to lead a world-class team supporting one of our most strategic semiconductor customers. This role is responsible for developing organizational capability, driving technology engagement, , and accelerating adoption of Applied Materials' solutions across leading-edge memory R&D and High-Volume Manufacturing fabs.

The Director will lead a team of Process Support Engineering managers and engineers while partnering closely with Business Units, Account Sales, Technical Directors, Field Service, and Product Engineering organizations to solve our customers' most complex challenges.

The successful candidate combines deep semiconductor process expertise with strong leadership skills, customer engagement experience, and a passion for developing people and teams.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Partnership & Strategic Leadership
  • Develop trusted relationships with senior customer engineering and manufacturing leadership.
  • Serve as a key technical interface between the customer and Applied Materials.
  • Anticipate technology inflections and identify opportunities for share growth and expanded engagement.
  • Drive alignment between customer priorities and Applied Materials technology roadmaps.
  • Lead executive-level technical discussions, escalations, and strategic reviews.


Process Support Engineering Leadership
  • Lead and develop a high-performing organization of Process Support Engineers and managers.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and development plans for Process Support Engineers and managers.
  • Create a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, and customer focus.
  • Build organizational capability through recruiting, coaching, mentoring, and succession planning.
  • Develop future technical leaders, managers, and directors.


Technology Enablement
  • Drive adoption of new technologies through demonstrations, evaluations, qualifications, and joint development activities.
  • Guide problem-solving efforts involving yield, defectivity, productivity, process integration, and equipment performance.
  • Provide leadership during critical customer escalations and recovery plans.
  • Partner with product groups to accelerate introduction of next-generation technologies.


Business & Operational Excellence
  • Support resource planning, organizational growth, and financial forecasting.
  • Ensure alignment of technical resources with customer priorities and business objectives.
  • Drive continuous improvement in execution, communication, and operational effectiveness.
  • Monitor organizational health through key performance indicators and customer feedback metrics.


Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Account Management, Technical Directors, R&D, Product Engineering, Manufacturing, and Service organizations.
  • Build close relationships with Business Unit GMs
  • Influence product development by providing customer and field insights.
  • Coordinate support strategies across multiple locations and organizations.
  • Ensure consistent execution of best practices across the engineering organization.


Qualifications

Required
  • BS degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, or related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of semiconductor industry experience.
  • 5+ years leading technical teams and engineering organizations.
  • Experience supporting advanced semiconductor manufacturing environments.
  • Strong knowledge of process integration and semiconductor manufacturing.
  • Proven customer-facing leadership experience.
  • Experience managing technical escalations and complex problem-solving efforts.
  • Outstanding communication and executive presentation skills.


Preferred
  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD).
  • Experience supporting memory technologies including DRAM.
  • Experience working directly with major semiconductor manufacturers.
  • Multi-disciplinary knowledge spanning deposition, etch, CMP, metrology, inspection, or patterning technologies.
  • Demonstrated success developing engineering managers and technical leaders.

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.

For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
