Position: Director - Plant Engineering Oerations Position Summary: Responsible for the ongoing, effective operation of Plant Engineering, and for the ongoing assessment and improvement of all services. Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, and controls the operations of the Engineering and Maintenance departments. Maintains compliance with applicable regulatory agency requirements, including The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), State and Local agencies, The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), etc. Manages staff and contractors to adequately ensure and maintain the efficient and safe operation of all hospital buildings. Plans, predicts, maintains and repairs building and equipment. Utilizes energy management and tracking tools to maintain efficient utility operations. Develops and manages operating and capital budgets.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:1. Direct and supervises staff in assigned areas:
Recruit, hire, develop, coach, evaluate, and when necessary, discipline staff in accordance with organizational policy. Establish work priorities, staffing plans, schedules, and training programs. Promote a culture of employee engagement, accountability, regulatory compliance, and workplace safety. Ensure departmental training, certifications, and required education are maintained.
2. Provide overall departmental leadership and financial stewardship:
Develop, manage, and monitor operating and capital budgets. Support long-range infrastructure planning and capital replacement strategies. Collaborate with hospital leadership to achieve operational, financial, quality, and patient satisfaction goals. Maintain productive relationships with internal stakeholders, contractors, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
3. Oversee maintenance, construction, renovation, and infrastructure improvement activities:
Evaluate equipment performance and establish repair and replacement priorities. Direct project planning, contractor coordination, construction compliance, documentation control, life safety plan maintenance, permitting activities, and infection control and interim life safety processes as required.
4. Direct environmental safety and regulatory compliance programs:
Develop, review, and maintain departmental policies, procedures, manuals, inspection records, and regulatory documentation. Coordinate regulatory surveys and inspections and implement corrective actions as needed to maintain ongoing compliance.
5. Ensure reliability and performance of critical building systems including HVAC, electrical distribution, emergency power, water, medical gas, vacuum, and other utility infrastructure. Oversee preventive maintenance programs, monitor energy consumption, evaluate utility performance, and identify opportunities for efficiency, sustainability, and cost reduction.
6. Demonstrate effective leadership through sound judgment, strategic planning, ethical decision-making, organizational awareness, employee development, performance management, accountability, and regulatory compliance. Foster collaboration, continuous improvement, and service excellence throughout the department.
7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications E ducation, Training, Experience and Licenses/Registrations Required: Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree or 8 years of experience
- Alternative to a bachelor's degree may be:
- Associate's degree with 3 years of qualifying engineering experience, OR
- Five (5) years of qualifying engineering experience
- Engineering management experience in a large community or teaching hospital of 250+ beds preferred
Skills:
- Knowledge of NFPA, CMS, TJC, OSHA, EPA, and applicable state and local regulations
- Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, and building automation systems
- Strong leadership, financial management, project management, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CMMS, and Building Management Systems
License/Certification:
- Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) certification or ability to obtain within one year, preferred
- Active Texas Driver's License and ability to travel as required
