The Role

The Director Philanthropy is a visible, senior individual contributor who engages donors for all clinical priorities within Providence Holy Cross at Mission Hills. The role independently develops new donors using a disciplined approach to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, all the way through stewardship of gifts of $50,000 and above. They will serve as a trusted strategic partner to the Chief Philanthropy Officer. Success requires healthcare philanthropy expertise, confidence partnering with physicians and clinical leaders, strong project execution, and the ability to influence outcomes without direct authority. The Director will coordinate major, planned, and event-based giving strategies while helping strengthen a culture of philanthropy throughout Providence Holy Cross.

What You'll Do

• Personally cultivate and secure gifts of $50,000 or more, including multi-year commitments, across multiple clinical and ministry priorities.
• Partner with physicians, clinical leaders, department heads, hospital executives, and foundation colleagues to develop compelling giving opportunities and donor strategies.
• Serve as a strategic extension and trusted lieutenant to the Chief Philanthropy Officer by contributing ideas, constructively challenging approaches, and helping shape fundraising strategy.
• Lead initiatives and influence results across clinical, foundation, and ministry stakeholders without relying on formal authority or direct reports.
• Collaborate with the Director of Planned Giving on blended major and planned gift strategies, recognizing when specialist involvement will strengthen an opportunity.
• Use donor events, salons, and physician engagement opportunities to advance relationships and strengthen the major gifts pipeline.
• Actively represent the charitable mission in the community and participate in initiatives at Holy Cross that expand awareness and strengthen the culture of philanthropy.

What You'll Bring

Education & Credentials

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Completion of fundraising training programs preferred.
• Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) preferred upon hire.

Experience & Expertise

• 8 years of nonprofit experience with significant major-giving responsibility.
• 3 years of senior-level fundraising experience in a large, complex organization, with demonstrated success closing six-figure gifts.
• Direct fundraising experience in a hospital, health system, academic medical center, medical school, health sciences program, clinical research environment, or a closely related healthcare setting.
• Demonstrated experience carrying and advancing an active donor portfolio and personally securing gifts of $50,000 or more.
• Proven success partnering with physicians, clinical leaders, healthcare executives, or comparable medical stakeholders to identify, cultivate, and solicit donors.
• Experience designing and implementing fundraising strategies that achieved measurable goals and developed a sustainable major-gift pipeline.
• Working knowledge of planned giving and the ability to coordinate blended major and planned gift strategies with subject-matter experts.
• Experience using donor events and engagement opportunities as part of a broader cultivation and solicitation strategy.
• Experience with donor management software; Raisers Edge experience preferred.
• Experience preparing fundraising reports, managing priorities, and using data to guide portfolio and pipeline activity.

• Healthcare fluency, including comfort with clinical terminology and the nuances of fundraising in a healthcare environment.
• Persuasive oral and written communication, strong interpersonal skills, and a donor-centered approach.
• Entrepreneurial thinking, adaptability, and willingness to test new approaches in a lean, collaborative team.
• Strong project management, organization, prioritization, and follow-through across multiple stakeholders and deadlines.
• Authentic alignment with the mission of serving high-need communities and people who are poor and vulnerable.

The full pay range is listed in accordance with applicable law. Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, organizational compensation alignment, and the approved hiring department budget for the position. This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation and benefits.

Posted are the minimum and the maximum wage rates on the wage range for this position. The successful candidate's placement on the wage range for this position will be determined based upon relevant job experience and other applicable factors. These amounts are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
