Support Center - Irving
The Director - Operational Accounting is responsible for ensuring compliance related to revenue, merchandise inventories, cost of sales, and entitlement accounting associated with the Company's retail locations, distribution centers and manufacturing operations. Also responsible for ensuring data integrity in Company revenue and inventory accounting systems and decision support systems used for business reporting, planning and analysis, and for developing and preparing managerial reports and analyses for cross-functional users in support of business objectives. Responsible for overseeing the company's entitlement program to ensure proper management and accounting for vendor funds. The Director - Operational Accounting will be located in our Support Center (Global Headquarters) located in Irving, TX.
Major Activities- Lead and manage the revenue, merchandise inventory, physical inventory, and entitlement accounting functions for Michaels Stores, Inc., including the development and maintenance of policies, procedures and controls to ensure accurate and timely monthly financial reporting for Michaels' retail and distribution center locations, and Artistree manufacturing operations.
- Continuously monitor departmental processes against industry best practices, perform appropriate benchmarking, conduct continuous process improvements and identify/implement productivity and control enhancements.
- Work closely with the Michaels organization to ensure that proposed business and process changes are analyzed; identify and clearly articulate the impact and risks to the Company's sales, inventory, and entitlements values related to those initiatives and work closely with teams to mitigate those risks.
- Ensure development of Revenue, Merchandise, Physical Inventory, Artistree, and Entitlement Accounting teams; build skill sets and ensure adequate cross training and succession planning for manager positions.
- Identify and champion business and process changes to drive improvements in the quality of reported data and drive organizational efficiencies.

- BS in Accounting or Finance
Minimum Type of experience the job requires
- 10 years with at least 5 years in a supervisory capacity
- Must have previous experience with inventory accounting in a retail environment
- Experience with US GAAP and SEC requirements
