Position Summary

The Director of Slots Operations provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and financial management for all aspects of the Slot Department in support of Odawa Casino Resort's mission, values, and business objectives.

This role is responsible for maximizing slot revenue and return on investment through effective game mix management, floor optimization, team development, guest service excellence, and regulatory compliance. The Director of Slots Operations leads departmental planning, budgeting, staffing, and performance management while fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and exceptional guest experiences.

This position serves as a member of the Executive Team and contributes to the overall strategic direction of the organization. This position has access to confidential, sensitive, and proprietary business information.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Operational Leadership
  • Direct and oversee all aspects of Slot Department operations, including slot floor design, game selection and placement, machine performance, maintenance coordination, policies, procedures, and operational efficiency.
  • Optimize slot revenue through strategic analysis of gaming performance, floor layouts, product mix, denomination configuration, and utilization rates.
  • Monitor and evaluate slot machine financial, operational, and statistical performance on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Prepare and present operational and financial reports, recommendations, and performance analyses to the Executive Team.
  • Recommend enhancements to departmental controls, systems, operating procedures, and business processes.
  • Ensure department readiness and responsiveness to promotions, special events, and enterprise initiatives.
  • Utilize AutoCAD or similar design software to develop, maintain, and evaluate slot floor layouts, gaming space utilization plans, and equipment placement strategies to maximize revenue, guest flow, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop, maintain, and manage strategic relationships with gaming manufacturers, vendors, and service providers. Evaluate vendor performance, negotiate solutions, hold vendors accountable for contractual obligations, product performance, service levels, and project deliverables, and ensure alignment with organizational goals and operational expectations.
  • Collaborate with gaming vendors on product innovation, capital investments, technology enhancements, and revenue growth initiatives.


Financial Management
  • Develop, administer, and monitor departmental operating and capital budgets.
  • Analyze financial trends and key performance indicators to maximize profitability and operational effectiveness.
  • Manage gaming-related contracts and service agreements in collaboration with the General Manager and Director of Finance
  • Identify opportunities for revenue growth, expense management, and return on investment.
  • Participate in gaming product evaluations and capital planning initiatives.
  • Participate in vendor selection processes, contract reviews, and capital investment decisions to ensure maximum return on investment and operational effectiveness.


People Leadership
  • Lead, develop, and manage departmental leadership and staff through effective coaching, mentoring, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Exercise supervisory authority including hiring, termination, promotion, transfer, scheduling, performance evaluations, corrective action, and training.
  • Foster a culture of engagement, accountability, continuous learning, and service excellence.
  • Ensure Team Members receive the training, resources, and support necessary to achieve performance expectations.


Guest Experience and Service Excellence
  • Establish and maintain exceptional guest service standards throughout the Slot Department.
  • Evaluate guest service performance and implement strategies to enhance the overall gaming experience.
  • Incorporate guest feedback and operational data into decision-making and service improvement initiatives.
  • Identify industry trends and best practices to strengthen service delivery and operational performance.


Strategic Planning and Executive Leadership
  • Serve as an active member of the Executive Team.
  • Contribute to organizational strategic planning and long-term business objectives.
  • Support enterprise-wide initiatives and drive departmental alignment with organizational goals.
  • Collaborate effectively with all departments to ensure a seamless guest experience and operational excellence.


Compliance and Regulatory Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with Tribal Internal Controls, Tribal MICS, gaming regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to slot operations, machine inventory, maintenance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Safeguard confidential information and maintain the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.
  • Maintain eligibility for gaming licensure and regulatory compliance requirements.


Additional Responsibilities
  • Attend required meetings, training sessions, and professional development programs.
  • Maintain availability to support operational needs, including emergency situations and after-hours business demands.
  • Travel as required for business purposes.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Gaming Management, Hospitality Management, or a related field and a minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible slot operations leadership experience, including at least five (5) years in a senior-level management role within a casino environment of similar size and complexity.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, certifications, and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.


Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Experience utilizing AutoCAD to support slot floor design, gaming layouts, and operational planning.
  • Demonstrated experience managing gaming vendor relationships, including vendor performance evaluation, contract compliance, service-level accountability, and gaming product implementation.
  • Extensive knowledge of slot operations, gaming floor management, and gaming industry best practices.
  • Advanced experience with casino slot management systems, preferably Synkros or equivalent.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, forecasts, and operational analysis.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Tribal MICS, internal controls, and gaming regulations.
  • Proven leadership, coaching, and succession planning abilities.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Must meet Odawa Casino Resort supervisory and leadership training requirements.
  • Must be able to obtain a gaming license in accordance with the regulations established by the LTBB Gaming Regulatory Commission and be able to serve in the position under any other applicable law.


Working Conditions
  • Casino environment with exposure to secondhand smoke, crowds, and elevated noise levels.
  • Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency response as needed.
  • Occasional travel required.
