POSITION SUMMARYThe Director of Shared Services is the single process owner for transactional finance across every business unit. This leader runs accounts receivable, collections, accounts payable, and the month-end close from one centralized team, and hands clean, timely results to each business-unit controller for review and sign-off. The role builds the structure that lets Finance scale to $500M and beyond without adding a back office in each unit, and it leads the adoption of AP automation (Traild) and ERP-driven workflows.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESProcess ownership- Own end-to-end AR, collections, cash application, AP, and invoice matching (PO / receipt / invoice) across all business units.
- Own the month-end close calendar, including bank and account reconciliations, intercompany, fixed assets, inventory and COGS reconciliations, expense and card posting, and master data.
- Calculate monthly sales commissions; deliver results to business-unit controllers for review and approval and to Financial Reporting for accrual.
- Support 1099 and tax filings, certificates, and internal and external audits.
Team leadership- Lead, coach, and hold accountable the AR, AP, and accounting teams through clearly defined roles, workloads, and performance targets.
- Eliminate duplicate titles and unclear ownership; maintain one accountable owner for each process.
- Hire, develop, and manage performance of managers and staff; build documented procedures and cross-training.
Controls and performance- Enforce the rule that the preparer is never the approver; partner with business-unit controllers on approvals, account review, and sign-off.
- Reduce aged receivables and reliance on the revolver, with a target of less than 3% of total AR over 90 days.
- Define and report KPIs (DSO, aging, collection effectiveness, AP cycle time, close timeliness, touchless invoice rate) to executive leadership.
Systems and automation- Lead the Traild AP automation rollout and integration with the ERP (Acumatica) and related platforms.
- Drive ERP workflow compliance and continuous process improvement; resolve vendor and customer escalations.
QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; equivalent related experience considered.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including 5+ years leading AR/AP or shared-services teams.
- Experience in a multi-entity distribution or industrial business strongly preferred.
- Hands-on ERP experience (Acumatica preferred) and strong Excel / reporting skills; experience implementing AP or AR automation.
- Strong understanding of internal controls, segregation of duties, and month-end close.
- Clear communicator who can partner with executives, controllers, sales, and operations.
SUCCESS MEASURES- Over-90-day AR below 3% of total AR; DSO and aging trending down.
- Monthly close completed on schedule with controller sign-off and minimal adjustments.
- AP invoices processed through automation with fewer manual touches and no payment control exceptions.
- Clean audits and clearly documented, cross-trained processes.
