DescriptionThe
Director of Safety leads BBP's enterprise-wide safety program, driving regulatory compliance, risk management, workforce training, and incident prevention. This role maintains an active field presence-leading toolbox talks, conducting audits, and providing hands-on safety leadership during plant turnarounds, outages, and major field projects.
A core operational mandate is ensuring
100% gate clearance: verifying all technician credentials, plant-specific training, and site access criteria before dispatch so no crew member is turned away at the gate.
The First Year (A Hands-On Build):BBP plans to add a dedicated Safety Administrator within 12-18 months. Year one is an operational build: you will personally lead strategic safety initiatives while establishing and managing the day-to-day administrative frameworks-credential tracking, contractor compliance portals, and safety documentation. As the program matures, you will help hire, onboard, and transition administrative tasks to the new Administrator while shifting toward higher-level oversight.
Key ResponsibilitiesSite Access & Contractor Management Portals- Maintain company compliance ratings and documentation across third-party qualification platforms, including ISNetworld, Avetta, Veriforce, and DISA.
- Track and manage field technician certifications, safety council badges (e.g., ISTC, BTC, Basic Plus, TWIC), drug and alcohol screenings, and site-specific training.
- Partner with Field Service Managers to audit site access criteria well ahead of dispatch, proactively flagging gaps and credential expirations.
- Establish safety council accounts, client site onboarding, and employee badging for new customer awards.
Field Safety & Jobsite Leadership- Conduct regular field audits, routine jobsite visits, and engaging toolbox talks tied to active work scopes, seasonal risks, and near-miss trends.
- Serve as the primary onsite Safety Manager during major turnarounds, outages, and critical scopes, or direct assigned site safety personnel.
- Enforce Stop-Work Authority decisively while coaching crews through root-cause corrections with a collaborative, field-first mindset.
- Oversee and standardize Job Safety Analyses (JSAs/JHAs) to ensure critical hazard controls are in place prior to work commencing.
Program Leadership, Training & Compliance- Formulate, update, and implement corporate safety policies meeting OSHA 1910/1926 standards, customer mandates, and industry best practices.
- Partner with HR to establish baseline onboarding standards (e.g., OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR/AED) and build internal qualification programs (e.g., Confined Space, Fall Protection, Respiratory Protection).
- Lead the company PPE and safety asset programs, overseeing procurement, regional stock levels (FR apparel, hard hats, vests), and periodic inspection tracking (harnesses, ladders, fire extinguishers).
- Track, evaluate, and report key safety metrics (TRIR, DART, EMR, leading indicators) to executive leadership, maintaining audit-ready OSHA 300 logs.
Incident Investigation & Risk Response- Lead incident and near-miss investigations, root-cause analyses (RCA), corrective action plans, and cross-team lessons learned.
- Prepare field technicians for site incident protocols, medical escalation pathways, and reporting standards prior to dispatch.
- Manage workers' compensation cases, OSHA reporting, and return-to-work protocols in coordination with HR.
Candidate Profile & QualificationsMinimum Requirements- Experience: 8+ years of industrial, refinery, chemical plant, or heavy construction safety experience, including 3+ years in a direct safety leadership role.

- Coach Over Cop: Drives safety compliance through mentorship, education, and trust-building rather than punitive policing.
- Builder Mindset: Eager to roll up their sleeves to create repeatable tracking templates, workflows, and procedures from scratch.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements- Regular exposure to operating industrial environments, industrial plants, and outdoor Gulf Coast conditions (heat, humidity, inclement weather).
