Shepherd Center is seeking a visionary Director of Acquired Brain Injury Research to lead a dynamic program dedicated to advancing the science of rehabilitation and improving outcomes for people with acquired brain injury. This influential leader will shape research priorities, direct innovative clinical studies and trials, pursue external funding, and translate discoveries into meaningful improvements in care. Working alongside clinicians, physicians, researchers, and external partners, the Director will expand Shepherd Center’s national and international research impact while mentoring the next generation of rehabilitation investigators.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Director of Research leads and coordinates program research. Establishing and maintaining a clinical research setting; the Director of Research is expected to perform all necessary clinical, administrative, and management tasks associated with maintaining an effective research program within a clinical setting.
- Design, develop, and submit grant applications to public and private funding sources.
- Initiate and direct research projects related to program.
- Provide training and support to clinical staff of the program to pursue their research interests.
- Serve as lead and/or co-investigator on clinical trials.
- Participate in research dissemination activities, including submission of a minimum of two manuscripts to refereed journals and making a minimum of two presentations at professional or scientific conferences per year.
- Establish and maintain professional contacts with funding agencies and other academic and research institutions.
- Ensure that all requirements for progress and financial reporting to funding agencies are met.
- Provide consultation on research studies, as requested.
- Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with Center and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.
- Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process.
REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION
REQUIRED MINIMUM CERTIFICATION
- No professional certifications required.
REQUIRED MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
- At least 5 years’ experience leading extramurally funded research project
- History of peer-reviewed publications
- Grant writing, research content expertise in a defined area of study
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time or exerting up to 15 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
