Summary

The ideal candidate will have a passion for elevating guest and member experiences both indoor and out, thrive on creating memorable recreation events, and use their creativity to develop and implement fantastic new initiatives.

The Director of Recreation manages all related operations to achieve the highest standards of member satisfaction and financial profitability. The areas of responsibility include fitness, pool, beach, and children's programming, effectively develops and delivers year-long programs that exceed guest and member needs.

Essential Functions

Job duties include, although are not limited to:

  • Lead and direct all Recreation operations to include, but not limited to, guest service, food and beverage selection and quality, merchandising and marketing, inventory management and cost controls, outlet reservations, systems use and management, budget and forecasting, report generation, department management and meeting participation and facilitation
  • Oversee and direct the coordination, promotion and facilitation of all activities, programs and events for Recreation operations (i.e. tennis tournaments, pool and water activities and contests, children's programs, etc.)
  • Design and implement developmentally appropriate children's programs curriculum, utilizing safe, fun and interactive hands-on activities that provide learning as well as entertainment.
  • Formulate, maintain and supervise all departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards within established state licensing guidelines and hotel policy.
  • Participate in marketing of programs including involvement in newsletters, brochures and logo items.
  • Responsible for assisting with back up activities in a pre-assigned indoor facility for members and guests when there is inclement weather.
  • Responsible for maintaining financial and program records relating to recreational activities, events, programs, etc.
  • Responsible for working with other Resort and Club departments to create and implement activities, events, and programs
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training department staff.
  • Oversee planning, assigning, and directing work, conducting performance appraisals and all aspects of performance management for staff.
  • Address complaints and concerns from members and guests and resolve any problems for Recreation.
  • Oversee revenue forecasting, budgeting expenditures and tracking.
  • Administer payroll for staff ensuring associates are paid accurately.
  • Attend company training as required.


Internal Relationships

Reports to the General Manager, Resort Operations.

External Relationships

Has regular contact with the guest and members of The Boca Raton. Maintains appropriate relationships with these and other constituencies in order to enhance the image of the Company and the attainment of its objectives.

Education/Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree Preferred.

  • Prior Recreation experience with a luxury Beach Resort, Cruise Ship, Private Club, Theme Park or high-end Fitness concept with at least 5 years in a Leadership role


Physical Requirements
Work tasks are performed indoors and outdoors. Position requires walking and giving direction most of the working day. Must be able to exert well-paced ability to maneuver between functions occurring simultaneously. Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity. Must be able to lift trays of food or food items weighing up to 30 lbs. frequently. Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs. occasionally.
