Director of Product Management, Core Seller

What's the role?

Core Seller is one of Etsy's most important focus areas — the tools that power how millions of sellers run their shops. This is a pivotal moment for the team: leadership is doubling down on this space, and this role will set the direction for what comes next. The focus is developing a deep understanding of our sellers, building a bold product roadmap and driving a fast pace of testing, learning and shipping.

The Director will lead product strategy across Shop Manager (the seller web experience), the Etsy Seller App, our external APIs for sellers and 3P tools, and new AI tools for sellers. The role blends direct product work with coaching a team of PMs. Together, they'll turn ideas into products that create lasting value for our Seller community.

This is a full-time role reporting to the VP of Product.

What the team is like

Core Seller builds the tools that millions of small business owners rely on to run their shops. It's central to Etsy's long-term strategy, and leadership is investing seriously in its next chapter. It's also a highly collaborative, cross-functional team. This role partners closely with peer leads and senior leaders across the business.

The immediate priority is a backlog of high-impact opportunities and a strategy for evolving our tools to work harder for sellers as they grow on Etsy. This leader will bring clear prioritization, pace, and a test-and-learn approach to that work, with delivery timed around the pre-holiday season, when sellers are at their busiest.

What does the day-to-day look like?

• Set product strategy and roadmap for Core Seller: Shop Manager (web), the Seller App, external APIs, and new AI tools
• Work directly within the team to ship product changes, not just set plans
• Manage and coach a team of 3 PMs, each leading a distinct area, and connect their work into one approach to AI tools
• Build a rhythm so the wider organization can see what's being worked on and how it's progressing
• Partner with Seller Growth and Inventory leads outside this role's reporting line
• Use both qualitative and quantitative research to understand seller needs, and judge when to dig deeper versus test and ship
• Decide where AI tools should, and shouldn't, be used, in keeping with Etsy's commitment to keeping commerce human

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• Experience with both hands-on product work and managing a product team
• Experience with small businesses or marketplace sellers, and interest in learning their needs through research
• Comfort weighing when a deeper look is needed versus when a faster test will do, especially since sellers run real businesses that shouldn't be disrupted unnecessarily
• A habit of building trust and working well with teams outside this role's reporting line
• Experience building and general curiosity for agentic AI tools along with judgment about where they should and shouldn't be used
• Experience with a product that spans multiple surfaces, such as web, mobile app, and API

Compensation & Benefits

In addition to salary, you'll be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our that support you and your family. Base salary is determined by your location, skills, and experience.

Etsy uses two geographic pay zones to reflect the labor markets where we compete for talent: one called Geo-1, covering the New York City metropolitan area, San Francisco Bay Area, and Seattle metropolitan area, and one called Geo-2, covering all other U.S. locations. Salary ranges for this role vary by zone and are listed below.

Location

We prioritize candidates based within commutable distance of Etsy
9s Brooklyn Office. Depending on proximity, we ask team members to come in once or twice per week. Remote candidates outside commutable distance may be considered on a case-by-case basis, with the expectation of occasional travel to the office.
