Overview

The Director of Produce Merchandising leads the overall produce and floral business strategy, with full accountability for sales, gross profit, and department performance. This role drives growth through assortment planning, pricing and promotional strategies, merchandising execution, and operational excellence. By developing innovative programs that position us to win in the marketplace, the Director ensures a compelling guest experience and drives market share growth.

Responsibilities

1. Designs effective plans and promotions to achieve department sales and budgeted gross profit dollars. Manages programs to maximize total yield.2. Develop standards that are superior to competition.3. Establishes and achieves proper product variety to exceed guest expectations. Develops signature items or programs. These programs or items are unique to Lowes Foods or unique in our marketing areas. 4. Establishes and maintains competitive retail prices.5. Continually works to lower the cost of goods from vendors and MDI.6. Establish effective labor guidelines and develops training programs.7. Ensures effective training and development of department and store personnel.8. Ensures the department exceeds consumer demand and remains progressive and state-of-the-art.9. Works closely with MDI to ensure we are achieving desired combined goals and service levels.10. Ensures the department meets all local, state, and federal requirements for product handling and food safety.11. Develops leadership skills in co-workers and bench for position.12. Leads produce/floral category management and field merchant team, including their development.

Qualifications

Possess the knowledge and skills generally associated with a Bachelor's Degree plus 7-10 years of progressively increasing experience in the areas of store management, merchandising, purchasing, and produce product knowledge.

Reports to the SVP of Fresh Merchandising and works under general supervision. The role has broad latitude in selecting products, establishing department standards, and developing specific merchandising programs. The department works closely with operations in a consulting/influence capacity in the implementation of training and best practices.
