Full Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:

Under minimal direction, coordinates and supervises pharmacy services including preparation and dispensing of drugs, supplies and equipment, preparation of sterile products and clinical pharmacy services.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Responsible for overall functioning of the pharmacy of the branch.

2. Supervises pharmacy staff.

3. Directs, coordinates and supervises all pharmacy activities including management of the clean room drug preparation, sterile products preparation, dispensation and clinical pharmacy services.

4. Works with Distribution Supervisor/Manager to facilitate and coordinate pharmacy operations.

5. Participates/assists Distribution Supervisor/Manager in the procurement of drugs, supplies and equipment used in preparing and administering drugs.

6. Performs duties of the clinical pharmacist as necessary.

7. Maintains clinical skills and knowledge of pharmacotherapy and intravenous therapy by reviewing the literature and attending in-services, seminars and conferences.

8. Performs marketing support as requested.

9. Performs oversight of department's performance improvement initiatives and coordinates department QA activities for pharmacy.

10. Participates in recruitment and hiring of potential new pharmacy personnel.

11. Performs performance reviews, at least annually, on pharmacy staff.

12. Participates/coordinates orientation and training of pharmacy and other organizational employees.

13. Participates in branch management and inter-departmental meetings as required.

14. Coordinates/participates in departmental meetings as scheduled.

15. Prepares and submits management reports as required.

16. Participates in development of the branch budget for pharmacy operations.

17. Guides pharmacy toward achievement of monthly, quarterly and annual projections based on financial and management objectives.

18. Follows established channels of authority and communications throughout the organization.

19. Maintains on-call schedule for pharmacists. Covers pharmacy calls as needed.

20. In the absence of Director of Operations, will have the authorization to act as the manager/leader of the branch.

21. Acts as the Performance Improvement Coordinator

22. Performs special tasks or projects as requested.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Possess a strong knowledge base in intravenous admixture and clinical aspects of home infusion therapy.
  • Possess the necessary supervisory/management skills and/or experience to supervise the pharmacy aspects of home infusion therapy.
  • Have the ability to work effectively with others as part of a team.
  • Have the ability to communicate, both verbally and written, with patients, clients, management and other employees.
  • Have the ability to plan and problem solve.
  • Possess good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Dependable in attendance and job performance.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
• A Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (Doctor of Pharmacy or a Master of Science in Pharmacy desirable) from an accredited (Council on Pharmaceutical Education) college of pharmacy.
• Current and unrestricted Pharmacist license in the state of practice.
• Possess a minimum of five years pharmacy and nursing operations and clinical pharmacy experience in home infusion therapy.
