Full Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Maintenance to join our team in a leadership role. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all maintenance operations within the aviation defense sector, ensuring compliance with DCMA Instruction 8210-1D, Part 91, and Part 135 regulations. This position requires an individual with a strong background in military aviation, as well as extensive knowledge of the regulatory requirements governing aircraft maintenance and operations within defense contracts as well as a working knowledge of the same in Part 91 and Part 135 maintenance operations. What you get to do: • Leadership and Oversight: - Lead the Maintenance Department, providing direction, training, and oversight to a team of maintenance managers, technicians, and other staff members. - Ensure that all aircraft maintenance operations are carried out in full compliance with DCMA Instruction 8210, FAA Part 91, and Part 135 regulations. - Develop and implement strategies to optimize maintenance schedules, improve workplace safety, reduce downtime, and improve operational efficiency. - Adhere to, and enforce adherence to the company Flight and Ground Operating Procedures (FGOP). - Provide inputs and editing to maintain the relevance of the Ground portion of the FGOP in close coordination with the Chief Pilot and Director of Operations. • Regulatory Compliance: - Ensure strict adherence to all applicable aviation regulations, including those outlined by the FAA, DCMA Instruction 8210-1D, and internal safety standards. - Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory authorities, including the FAA, DCMA, and other relevant government entities, ensuring audits and inspections are successfully managed and passed. - Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes to aviation regulations and industry best practices, implementing necessary updates to company policies and procedures. • Maintenance Program Management: - Oversee the development and management of maintenance programs for various aircraft, ensuring compliance with airworthiness directives (ADs), service bulletins (SBs), and other technical directives. - Coordinate with operations and engineering teams to ensure the timely availability of aircraft for missions. - Monitor fleet performance and identify trends or issues that could impact aircraft readiness or safety. - Develop and maintain a system for tracking parts and certification expirations to avoid lapses, expedited overhaul expenses and unnecessary downtime. • Safety and Risk Management: - Establish and enforce safety standards for the maintenance operations, ensuring the safety of personnel, equipment, and aircraft. - Identify and mitigate risks associated with aircraft maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs. - In coordination with the Flight and Ground Safety official, investigate maintenance-related incidents or accidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. • Budget and Resource Management: - Develop and manage the annual maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources and managing expenditures to stay within budget limits. - Optimize the use of facilities, tools, and personnel to maximize productivity and minimize costs. • Continuous Improvement: - Drive continuous improvement in maintenance processes and systems to enhance aircraft reliability and operational performance. - Periodically revisit maintenance tracking systems and data analytics to identify areas for improvement. Experience: - Minimum of 10 years of experience in aircraft maintenance, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within either defense aviation, or contract aviation supporting defense . - Extensive experience working within the DCMA 8210 framework and with FAA Part 91 and Part 135 operations. - Experience with a variety of aircraft types, particularly military or defense-related aircraft. Technical Skills: - In-depth knowledge of aviation maintenance, including troubleshooting, repairs, inspections, and airworthiness requirements. - Familiarity with maintenance tracking systems, inventory management, and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). - Proficient understanding of regulatory compliance and safety management systems. Education: - Bachelor's degree in Aviation Maintenance Management, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related field (preferred). - FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certification required. - Inspection Authorization (IA) certification preferred. - Additional certifications or training in leadership, safety, or management are a plus. Physical Requirements: - Ability to travel as needed to support maintenance operations and inspections. - Ability to work in environments that may require physical activity or handling of equipment.
