Job Summary

The Director of Loss Prevention & Firearms Compliance is responsible for developing, leading, and executing enterprise-wide strategies that protect company assets, reduce shrink, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote a safe and secure environment for associates and customers. This role provides leadership over loss prevention operations, investigations, surveillance, inventory control initiatives, and firearms compliance programs while partnering closely with Store Operations, Distribution, Merchandising, Human Resources, and other key business functions.

The Director serves as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, leveraging data, trends, and investigative findings to identify risk, strengthen controls, and drive continuous improvement across the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Loss Prevention Strategy & Asset Protection

• Develop and execute comprehensive loss prevention strategies designed to reduce shrink, mitigate risk, and protect company assets.
• Establish and maintain policies, procedures, and controls that support a culture of accountability, safety, and operational excellence.
• Monitor loss trends, identify emerging risks, and implement proactive solutions to address areas of opportunity.
• Partner with business leaders to ensure consistent execution of loss prevention initiatives across all locations.

Investigations & Compliance

• Lead internal investigations involving theft, fraud, policy violations, inventory discrepancies, and other operational risks.
• Oversee the review and analysis of surveillance footage and investigative evidence to support case resolution and risk mitigation efforts.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including firearms-related laws and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain investigative standards, documentation practices, and compliance protocols that support legal and regulatory obligations.

Inventory & Operational Controls

• Provide oversight of inventory control processes, inventory accuracy initiatives, and shrink reduction programs.
• Evaluate operational practices and internal controls to identify vulnerabilities and recommend corrective actions.
• Collaborate with operational leaders to improve inventory integrity and drive sustainable results.

Leadership & Team Development

• Lead, coach, and develop the Loss Prevention and Surveillance teams, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional growth.
• Provide training and guidance related to investigations, compliance, inventory controls, and asset protection best practices.
• Establish performance expectations and monitor team effectiveness through meaningful metrics and reporting.

Analytics & Business Partnership

• Analyze loss prevention, compliance, inventory, and operational data to identify trends and inform strategic decision-making.
• Prepare and present executive-level reporting, recommendations, and risk assessments to senior leadership.
• Build strong partnerships with Store Operations, Distribution Centers, Merchandising, Finance, Human Resources, and Store Support Center teams to support company objectives.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on asset protection, compliance, and risk management initiatives.

Additional Responsibilities

• Travel as required to support business needs, investigations, training, and operational initiatives.
• Demonstrate and model the leadership behaviors taught through Rural King's Thrive Leadership Program.
• Exercise sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism while handling highly confidential information.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Loss Prevention, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• Minimum of five (5) years of progressive multi-unit retail loss prevention, asset protection, compliance, or investigative leadership experience.
• Experience leading investigations, surveillance operations, inventory control programs, and compliance initiatives.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to retail operations and firearms compliance preferred.
• Reid Certification or comparable investigative interviewing certification preferred.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong analytical, financial, and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to interpret data and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
• Exceptional communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
• Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and drive results through collaboration.
• Proven leadership experience developing high-performing teams and building organizational capability.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and confidentiality.
