Position SummaryWaste Eliminator and Liberty Waste Solutions are growing, acquisition-driven waste services companies operating across the Southeast. We are seeking a hands-on Director of IT to own technology for both organizations: infrastructure, cybersecurity, business systems, and the integration of newly acquired companies.
This is a working leadership role. You will lead a small team of two IT staff plus a group of third-party providers, and you will be expected to roll up your sleeves on infrastructure, security, and systems work while also setting direction, managing budgets, and building the processes that let a small team support a growing, multi-location business. You will be a trusted partner to finance and operations leadership, and the first call when we acquire a company and need it up and running on our systems.
The role requires regular travel to company locations across the Southeast.

How the Role Is Expected to Be SpentApproximate allocation, which will shift during acquisition integrations:
- ~40% Operations: hands-on administration, troubleshooting, escalations, and oversight of day-to-day IT and vendor performance
- ~30% Projects and integrations: acquisition onboarding, system integrations, and improvement initiatives
- ~20% Security and governance: security program, risk, policy, and compliance
- ~10% Strategy and management: roadmap, budget, team development, and leadership partnership
Key ResponsibilitiesAcquisition Integration- Own the technology side of every acquisition, from due diligence through cutover: assessing the target's infrastructure, security posture, and systems, and identifying risks and costs early.
- Build and continuously refine a repeatable integration playbook covering network and connectivity, identity and email, endpoints, phones, security baseline, and migration into NetSuite, Soft-Pak, Fleetio, HubSpot, and ADP.
- Coordinate with Finance, Operations, and HR to meet integration timelines with minimal disruption to routes, dispatch, billing, and payroll.
Infrastructure and Operations- Oversee networks, servers, cloud services, endpoints, and communications across all locations, including yards, shops, and offices.
- Ensure availability and performance of operationally critical systems, especially those supporting dispatch, routing, and billing.
- Maintain and regularly test backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans.
- Establish support standards (ticketing, response targets, documentation) and improve the end-user support experience.
- Define a coverage plan for after-hours critical issues, shared across the team and key vendors.
Cybersecurity and Compliance- Establish, document, and maintain the security program for both companies, including policies, access controls, multi-factor authentication, endpoint protection, logging, and monitoring.
- Conduct risk assessments, vulnerability management, and security awareness training.
- Lead incident response planning and execution, including tabletop exercises.
- Meet applicable requirements, including cyber insurance conditions, customer contract security terms, payment card (PCI) obligations, privacy and breach notification laws, and any transportation or fleet data requirements.
- Work with a managed security provider or virtual CISO where independent oversight or additional capacity is needed.
Business Systems- Serve as the executive owner of NetSuite, Soft-Pak, Fleetio, HubSpot, and ADP, working with business process owners and vendors to optimize configuration, security, and user adoption.
- Lead and maintain integrations between systems, and improve data quality and reporting for operations, finance, and sales.
- Identify automation opportunities that reduce manual effort and improve visibility.
Vendor and Project Management- Manage vendor relationships, SLAs, and contracts; review and consolidate vendors where it improves service or cost.
- Plan, prioritize, and deliver technology projects on time and within budget, with clear communication to stakeholders.
Team Leadership- Lead, coach, and develop two IT team members; set clear expectations, priorities, and cross-training so critical knowledge is not held by one person.
- Promote a service-oriented culture and accountability for outcomes.
Financial Management- Develop and manage the annual IT operating and capital budgets, with cost allocation across both companies.
- Evaluate ROI and identify cost-saving opportunities, including license and contract optimization.
Strategic Leadership- Develop and execute an IT strategy and roadmap aligned to company growth and acquisition goals.
- Partner with the CFO and operating leadership to prioritize investments, and report regularly on risk, performance, and project status.
First-Year Priorities- Complete a baseline assessment of infrastructure, security, and vendor performance across both companies, with a prioritized remediation plan.
- Document and deliver the first version of the acquisition integration playbook, and apply it to the next acquisition.
- Standardize identity, endpoint, and security controls across both companies.
- Validate backup and disaster recovery for critical systems through an actual restore test.
- Review and rationalize key vendor contracts and define service levels.
- Document system integrations and ownership for NetSuite, Soft-Pak, Fleetio, HubSpot, and ADP.
QualificationsRequired- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 7+ years of progressive IT experience, including 3+ years leading IT teams.
- Hands-on experience across infrastructure, networking, cloud, and endpoint management, and with building or maintaining a cybersecurity program.
- Experience owning enterprise business applications (ERP, CRM, or similar) and working with business stakeholders on process and reporting.
- Experience managing vendors, contracts, and budgets.
- Ability to travel regularly within the Southeast.
Preferred- Experience integrating acquired businesses (IT due diligence, migrations, cutovers).
- Experience in waste management, transportation, logistics, or fleet operations.
- Experience with NetSuite, Soft-Pak, Fleetio, HubSpot, or ADP.
- Microsoft 365, Azure, SharePoint, and Power BI experience.
- Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, ITIL, PMP, or Azure certifications.
Success MetricsSpecific targets will be agreed in the first 90 days.
- Availability and reliability of critical systems (dispatch, routing, billing, ERP), measured against agreed targets.
- Cybersecurity posture: completed baseline, closure of high-risk findings, training completion, and tested incident response.
- Acquisition integration: time-to-cutover and operational disruption for each acquired company.
- Project delivery on schedule and budget.
- Budget accuracy and documented cost savings.
- End-user satisfaction and support response times.
Compensation and BenefitsBase salary of $120,000 - $140,000 depending on experience, with annual bonus eligibility target 10%. Benefits include health and wellness coverage, retirement plan participation, paid time off, and professional development support.
