Full Job Description
Summary:

The Director of Internal Operations is an enterprise leader responsible for improving how Fessler & Bowman operates across departments, regions, and projects. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this role will develop, standardize, and continuously improve companywide processes and systems, with a particular focus on Project Management, Field Operations, Estimating, and other critical business functions. The Director will partner with leaders across the organization to establish scalable processes, improve the use of technology, strengthen cross-functional coordination, and drive continuous improvement as the company grows.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Develop, standardize, and continuously improve companywide processes, SOPs, workflows, and operating standards
  • Partner with operational and corporate leaders to identify process gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement across departments and regions
  • Lead cross-functional process improvement initiatives from initial assessment through implementation, adoption, and ongoing measurement
  • Establish clear ownership, handoffs, controls, and performance measures for critical business processes
  • Evaluate and optimize the use of existing business and construction technology, including platforms such as Procore and B2W
  • Partner with Technology and functional leaders to evaluate new systems, integrations, automation opportunities, and emerging technology
  • Drive consistent adoption of company processes and systems through communication, training, change management, and engagement with field and office teams
  • Develop and manage a prioritized portfolio of continuous improvement initiatives based on business value, operational risk, and organizational needs
  • Establish metrics and reporting to measure process performance, technology adoption, efficiency, and sustained improvement
  • Build and develop an Internal Operations team as the function and needs of the organization continue to grow
  • Communicate recommendations, risks, progress, and results to the COO, Executive Team, and other organizational leaders

Education, Experience & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Operations, Business, Information Systems, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in construction operations, operational excellence, process improvement, business systems, or organizational transformation
  • Experience within construction, self-perform specialty contracting, or another complex, project-based and field-oriented organization strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience leading enterprise or cross-functional process improvement and organizational change
  • Strong understanding of construction operations, including Project Management, Field Operations, Estimating/Preconstruction, and the project lifecycle
  • Experience evaluating, implementing, and improving business technology and construction management systems
  • Ability to influence and lead across departments and levels of the organization without relying solely on direct authority
  • Strong executive communication, facilitation, problem-solving, and change-management skills
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies preferred
  • Creative and results-oriented, with the ability to translate complex business challenges into practical, scalable solutions


Travel:

Travel is required for this position. Travel may include, but is not limited to, travel to our other regional offices and job sites.

Work Environment:

As a Project Manager, you will be subject to various work environments. Environments include but are not limited to the following: office and field settings, high/low temperatures, areas close to traffic, loud and frequent noises, confined spaces, heights, indoor/outdoor settings.
