Full Job Description
The Director of Human Resources (HR) leads the HR and Payroll functions, overseeing Recruiting, Onboarding, Employee Development, and Employee Engagement while ensuring policy compliance. This role aligns HR strategy with business objectives, administers compensation, benefits, and insurance programs in keeping with industry and local standards, and manages associated costs. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and serves as a contributing member of the Executive Leadership Team.

$140k-$160k annually

Responsibilities:

HR Objectives
  • Define the organization's long-term HR mission, vision, and goals, identifying ways to support these through people-related policies, procedures, and management
  • Oversee the daily workflow of the HR team and department
  • Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and objectives for the HR Team aligned with the industry
  • Responsible for managing, implementing and enforcing the HR Team budget
  • Oversee maintenance of HR, Payroll, and Personnel files, including fulfillment of Department of Transportation requirements
  • Ensure maintenance of master training schedule to capture, track and manage all employee required trainings including CETP, Homeland Security, Hazmat, CFC's, HVAC apprentice, journeyman, and masters' licenses, etc.
  • Ensure practices, policies and procedures are compliant with employment, benefits, insurance, safety and other laws, regulations and requirements.
  • Develop and update policies and procedures to be compiled into the Employee Handbook

Employee Engagement, Talent Management & Employee Relations
  • Manage and continuously look for improvement opportunities in the annual performance review process
  • Oversee company progressive discipline and performance management programs
  • Oversee staff recognition and engagement programs, such as service milestones and employee appreciation events
  • Provide guidance on and resolve complex employee relations issues - conducting thorough, objective investigations as needed - and proactively champion a respectful, inclusive workplace
  • Support development of and updates to job descriptions
  • Support and suggest training and development programs for team members
  • Establish clear career paths and cross training opportunities for employees

Compensation, Benefit, and Compliance
  • Manage a Min/Mid/Max base compensation scale tied to all employee job descriptions, years of experience and capabilities
  • Analyze company compensation and benefits trends and metrics to manage costs and stay in alignment with industry standards
  • Work with Accounting to support annual budgeting for compensation, benefits and insurance
  • Serves as administrator for Payroll and Benefits Programs, including the 401k plan
  • Oversee annual healthcare plans and the renewal and rollout to employees
  • Ensure Completion of OSHA Reporting requirements
  • Oversee business insurance policies (casualty, workers' compensation, general liability, and auto), including renewals, audits, and claims review processes

Position Requirements:
  • 10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience; Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; SHRM-CP/SPHR or PHR/SPHR certification preferred
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as organization and attention to detail
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies
  • Ability to perform complex quantitative analysis, synthesize findings and make recommendations
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
