Full Job Description
Director of Human Resources

Multi-state field role | Reports to the Vice President of HR | 40-60% travel

Knight Swift Supply Chain is growing fast. We run 31 warehousing, 3PL, and e-commerce fulfillment locations across more than a dozen states, and we are hiring a Director of Human Resources to lead the field HR organization that supports roughly 700 people.

This is a build-and-scale role, not a caretaker role. Some of our regions are established and need consistent, compliant, well-run HR. Others are brand new sites and acquisitions that need HR built from the ground up. You will lead five direct reports (four Regional HR Business Partners and an HR Manager for our 3PL and e-commerce business) plus eight HR Generalists indirectly, and you will decide where HR effort goes first.

What You'll Own
• Leading and developing our Regional HR Business Partner team, and through them the site-level Generalists, so HR delivery looks the same in a new site as it does in an established region.
• Standing up HR for new sites and acquisitions: onboarding new workforces, integrating cultures, and putting right-sized processes in place before the business needs them.
• Acting as our senior expert on multi-state employment law, including California (wage and hour, PAGA, CFRA/PFL, Cal/OSHA), the WARN Act, and successor-employer obligations.
• Owning the turnover and workforce analytics story: building the metrics, spotting the outlier sites, and bringing executive leadership real retention and staffing recommendations.
• Setting the standard for employee relations across regions and personally handling the complex, high-risk matters.
• Partnering with Regional Directors of Operations and Senior leadership as a trusted advisor.
• Workforce planning, organizational design, succession, and the departmental budget across regions.

What You Bring
• 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including leading HR across multiple sites in 3PL, logistics, distribution, or high-volume warehousing.
• Experience building HR functions, teams, or processes from scratch, ideally in a high-growth or rapid-expansion environment.
• Experience managing and developing other HR leaders, not just individual contributors.
• Deep multi-state employment law knowledge, with real California experience.
• Comfort with ambiguity and the range to move between hands-on site launches and executive-level advising.
• Judgment about priorities: you can tell us what must be built now, what can wait, and why.
• Executive presence, and the ability to turn workforce data into a business case leaders act on.
• Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or a related field. Master's degree and SHRM-SCP or SPHR preferred.
• Willingness to travel 40-60%, heaviest during new site launches and client onboardings.

Nice to Have
• Experience supporting client-facing 3PL or e-commerce fulfillment operations.
• Experience building workload or span-of-control models to assign coverage objectively.
• Experience integrating acquisitions, including successor-employer and hire-date obligations.

The Details

Five direct reports, eight indirect. You will split time between corporate/office settings and active warehouse floors, and travel 40-60% across a national footprint.
