Job Summary

The Director of Human Resources will serve as the senior leader overseeing the daily operations while consistently providing leadership, legal compliance and strategic planning to support the employees and their performance.
Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain collaborative partnerships with internal and external customers to ensure that goals and objectives are clearly defined, documented, communicated, implemented and executed.
  • Lead and/or participates in strategic HR meetings to review, evaluate, and/or propose new HR strategies through the implementation/enhancement of operational or functional solutions, which are intended to improve customer relationships, operating efficiencies, and/or add business benefits.
  • Oversight of the hiring process, on-boarding/employment, fringe benefits, performance evaluations, Staff Development/Training, disciplinary actions, and terminations
  • Manage Wage & Salary Programs effectively and efficiently
  • Review employment contracts and make corrections as needed
  • Review and update all employment handbooks for accuracy
  • Provide training to all subordinates and indirectly to the EEO Office
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, University of Louisiana System rules and regulations, and University policies and procedures
  • Assist University Supervisors with policy interpretations and employee relations matters
  • Ensure maintenance of Human Resource records as required by applicable laws, rules, and regulations
  • Review and supervise the collection and preparation of reports and statistical data
  • Manage regular HR Communications to the Staffing Community

Qualifications

Minimum:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or business degree
  • Five to seven years of proven career progression, substantial supervisory experience, in a complex and public regulated Office of Human Resources within a higher education environment
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner HR software
  • Substantial experience with EEOC compliance and Employee Relations

  • Sound judgment and maturity
  • Effective interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills

  • The ability to work effectively with campus and system administrators and diverse campus constituencies
  • A strong commitment to a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive environment
Preferred:
  • Master's degree with seven to ten years of experience, with a strong understanding of all HR functions and proven experience in driving a strategic workforce plan, with a SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification.
