This is an exceptional opportunity for a finance leader who thrives on building strong systems from the ground up. Ravenscroft is a thriving PK-12 school of 1,250 students in Raleigh, and the incoming Director will lead the School's accounting operations while designing the modern systems, policies, and practices that will serve Ravenscroft for years to come.

REPORTS TO: Associate Head of School for Business Affairs (CFOO)

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Business Office accounting staff and school store staff (Total 3.5 employees)

What You'll Do
  • Lead the modernization of Ravenscroft's accounting and finance function, from systems assessment through implementation, training, and adoption.
  • Replace manual and paper-based processes with automated, integrated workflows across the general ledger, accounts payable, purchasing, and budgeting.
  • Own the accuracy and timeliness of the School's accounting records, month-end close, and financial statements.
  • Partner with the CFOO on the annual operating and capital budgets, multi-year financial modeling, and monthly budget-to-actual reporting.
  • Document and monitor internal controls, and manage the annual audit and related compliance reporting.
  • Prepare financial reporting for the Audit, Finance, and Investment Committees of the Board of Trustees.
  • Lead and develop the Business Office accounting team and set service standards for families, faculty, and staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including at least three in a controller, director of finance, or equivalent leadership role
  • Demonstrated experience leading a financial system implementation, conversion, or significant process redesign
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting
  • Proven ownership of the monthly and annual close, reconciliations, and audit preparation
  • Supervisory experience and the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-financial audiences

Preferred
  • CPA or MBA
  • Independent school, higher education, or other nonprofit finance experience
  • Experience with platforms such as Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT, Veracross, or comparable general ledger, tuition billing, and payroll systems
  • Experience implementing accounts payable automation, expense management, or purchasing workflow tools
  • Familiarity with endowment accounting and tax-exempt bond compliance

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This role is based on Ravenscroft's campus and includes work in the Business Office and shared community spaces. The position requires prolonged periods working at a computer, the ability to move throughout campus, and clear communication with colleagues, families, and trustees. Workload peaks around budget development, fiscal year-end close, the annual audit, and the opening of school. Occasional evening responsibilities may be required in connection with Board and committee meetings. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities.
