Job SummaryThe Director of Facilities provides strategic and operational leadership for the college's physical facilities, infrastructure, and physical plant operations. The Director is responsible for the planning, operation, maintenance, energy management/conservation and continuous improvement of campus facilities and grounds. This position provides leadership for capital planning, construction, renovation, utilities, maintenance, custodial services, grounds operations, regulatory compliance, safety, and emergency preparedness, and facility-related emergency responses. The Director develops and implements short-and long-term facilities plans that support the college's mission, strategic priorities, and campus master planning objectives.
ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Operations- Provides leadership, management, supervision and professional direction to a comprehensive facilities organization.
- Establishes departmental goals, service standards, and performance measures to ensure efficient and effective operations.
- Develops and implements short- and long-range strategic plans for facilities maintenance, operations, renovations, and campus infrastructure.
- Directs maintenance, repair and operations activities, including renovations, utilities distribution, custodial and grounds maintenance services, and emergency response services for facilities.
- Develops, implements, and recommends policies and procedures for facilities management, maintenance and operations.
- Analyzes operational issues, troubleshoots problems, and identifies alternative solutions.
Capital Planning, Construction & Renovations - Directs facilities master planning, space utilization, architectural and engineering services, and construction management.
- Develops and recommends policies, planning guidelines and procedures for the development of the college's annual major repair and renovation and capital program.
- Manages new construction and renovation processes; including preliminary budgets and construction time frames; project selection, awarding, administration and construction of all capital projects and major repair and renovation projects.
- Coordinates the review process for plans and specifications developed by consultants.
- Manages the program throughout the process of development, approval and implementation.
- Advises the Vice President of Business and Operations on the progress of all renovations, modifications and capital projects.
Budget, Contracts, & Vendor Management - Develops annual budget proposals; manages approved budgets; monitors expenditures.
- Manages capital and major repair and renovation programs through development, approval, and implementation.
- Oversees service agreements, vendor relationships, and contractor performance.
- Works with service providers; negotiates and approves contracts.
Other Duties - Represents the college to the Board of Regents and to local, state and federal governments on matters related to facilities and facilities planning.
- Serves as the Right to Know Coordinator and maintains compliance with applicable regulations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in facilities management, business administration, public administration, construction management, or related field.
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in facilities operations and management, including supervisory and budget oversight experience.
- Experience managing constructions, renovation, maintenance, or infrastructure improvement projects.
- Experience with computerized maintenance systems (CMMS).
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications - Master's degree in facilities management, business administration, public administration, construction management, or related field.
- Experience in higher education or public sector facilities management.
- Knowledge of APPA facilities management standards and practices.
- Experience with capital planning, construction, renovation, and major repair programs.
- Working knowledge of building, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and utility systems.

- Knowledge of current trends and best practices in higher education and their impact on facilities management.
