Full Job Description
Drive delivery and operational excellence.

Millennium is seeking a Director of Engineering. As the operational leader for the Engineering Business Unit, the Director of Engineering holds end-to-end accountability for delivery execution, unit economics, and operational scaling. Partnering directly with the VP of Strategic Solutions in a balanced commercial/operational dynamic, this role owns the business unit's operational and financial performance-driving gross margin, EBITDA, cost structure, resource allocation, and talent development. While the commercial organization focuses on revenue growth and market strategy, the Director of Engineering ensures that delivery operations excel in precision, efficiency, client retention, and long-term profitability.
What You'll Do
  • Own gross margin and EBITDA performance for the Engineering Business Unit
  • Own annual budget, forecasting, and staffing plans for the unit, translating project-level staffing input from the Head of Strategic Engineering and Engineering Manager(s) into a unit-wide plan.
  • Own cost structures and delivery economics, working with the VP where these connect to client-facing rate cards.
  • Design and monitor the unit's departmental KPIs - backlog strength, on-time delivery, unit cost per fiber-kilometer (KFM), margin by project - reported through NetSuite/Domo, with the Head of Strategic Engineering responsible for producing the underlying measures.
  • Own backlog, workload forecasting, and resource allocation across projects, with the Head of Strategic Engineering responsible for day-to-day backlog and workload monitoring, and Engineering Manager(s) consulted.
  • Own client retention - relationship health and proactive response to client needs - with the Head of Strategic Engineering responsible for day-to-day relationship management.
  • Own tool and technology evaluation and recommendation for the unit, incorporating Engineering Manager(s) input as it matures.
  • Own monthly reporting to management on status, performance, and metrics, with the Head of Strategic Engineering and Engineering Manager(s) responsible for generating the underlying reports.
  • Own succession planning and leadership development pipeline, including senior engineer training and technical development.
  • Partner with the VP on strategic planning and provide input on client retention risk that touches sales-facing accounts.
What You Bring
  • 10+ years in telecom, fiber/broadband infrastructure, or a comparable capital-project environment, including direct accountability for a unit's margin, budget, and cost structure.
  • Direct experience coordinating OSP engineering, design, and permitting workflows with major national carriers (e.g., AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile).
  • Demonstrated experience owning KPI design and monthly management reporting for an operating unit.
  • Fluency with ERP/BI tools (NetSuite, Domo, or equivalent) and comfort presenting financial and delivery performance to executive and Board audiences.
  • Experience building and developing a leadership bench (director- and manager-level) and running succession planning.
  • Comfort operating as a peer to a commercially-focused VP without overlapping accountability
