Full Job Description
We're looking for a Director of Engineering to lead our Data Products pillar, serving as the technical engine for Counterpart Health's (CPH) clinical-data foundation. You will own the technical strategy and execution for the Data Products roadmap-encompassing clinical data ingestion, canonical data modeling, and ingestion scalability-while building scalable, reusable data capabilities that serve as a foundational platform for driving clinical insight generation. You will own the technical strategy for our Data Products platform-ensuring our clinical data foundations (using standards like FHIR, LOINC, and RxNorm) effectively drive business outcomes. You will serve as a critical leader and partner to the VP of Engineering and cross-functional leaders in Product, Data Science, and Design.

As a Director of Engineering, Data Products, you will:
  • Own the Data Products technical roadmap, canonical data modeling, and ingestion scalability.
  • Manage and optimize the clinical data ingestion pipeline.
  • Oversee the scaling of customer data onboarding processes and the continuous improvement of data hygiene, canonical storage standards, and observability and monitoring of the data pipelines.
  • Enable shared funnel visibility across the organization and support the development of a robust enterprise reporting framework.
  • Drive the adoption of an AI-powered Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), leveraging AI tools to accelerate coding, testing, and deployment processes while maintaining stringent code quality and security standards.

Success in this role looks like:
  • Successfully achieving improved clinical data coverage and freshness targets across all patient populations.
  • Predictable and repeatable multi-customer scaling with standardized playbooks for rapid data readiness.
  • Broad adoption of the Data Products platform and its capabilities
  • Data infrastructure is robust, stable, and serves as a reliable source of truth during rapid organizational growth and customer expansion.

You should get in touch if:
  • You possess 10+ years of engineering experience with a deep focus on building high-scale data platforms, distributed systems, and interoperability standards (e.g., FHIR, CCDA).
  • Proven track record in managing and scaling engineering teams that handle data-heavy workloads and complex clinical data pipelines.
  • Proven experience leading cross-functional teams of engineers to deliver complex software in regulated environments.
  • Experience implementing and scaling AI-assisted development workflows (e.g., AI code assistants, automated testing, or AI-driven SDLC) to improve engineering productivity.
  • Demonstrated experience building and managing engineering systems in highly regulated healthcare environments, with a strong operational understanding of HIPAA and SOC 2 compliance requirements.
  • Passionate about the healthcare sector and committed to utilizing technical expertise to drive meaningful improvements in patient outcomes.
  • Deeply familiar with the inherent complexities and lack of standardization in clinical datasets, with a proactive focus on enhancing data integrity.
  • Motivated by intricate technical challenges and dedicated to architecting pragmatic, high-quality engineering solutions through continuous intellectual exploration.
  • Thrives in dynamic, high-growth environments, demonstrating the ability to navigate ambiguity and align technical priorities with overarching strategic objectives.
  • Action-oriented leader who assumes full ownership of system sustainability, willing to address operational gaps to ensure the team achieves its delivery milestones.

Engineering Leadership Skills:
  • Proven track record of directly hiring, mentoring, and developing engineering managers, Tech Leads (TLs), and Principal Engineers (PELs).
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate a high-performance engineering culture focused on velocity, quality, and psychological safety.
  • Experience leading organizational change, including structural re-orgs and process evolution.
  • Strong proficiency in strategic resource allocation, capacity planning, and managing technical debt in a fast-paced product environment.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate complex technical constraints into clear, actionable business strategies (e.g., impact on HEDIS/RADV outcomes) for non-technical leadership.
