About the Role:As the Director of Engineering - Cloud Compute, you will play a pivotal role in building our foundational IaaS offerings and accelerate the development of our carbon-reducing, AI focused cloud platform. Leveraging your extensive experience in cloud computing, you will lead complex engineering initiatives, mentor engineers, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and reliable cloud compute solutions. Our customers include rapidly growing AI companies and enterprise AI teams who use our high performance GPU compute products with VPC and cluster networking technology. We're now adding broad new compute and virtualization capabilities to meet the needs of our growing customer base.
What You'll Be Working On:- Serve as a team lead for cloud compute engineering at Crusoe Cloud, collaborating with leadership to define and implement the long-term road map and strategy for the team
- Guide the engineering team through architecture decisions, design processes, design reviews, code reviews, and implementation tasks
- Scale the team, including managing engineer onboarding, growing or hiring managers, and implementing team and org processes.
- Stay aware of the latest trends and techniques in cloud software, incorporating these insights to maintain Crusoe's market-leading offerings
- Drive the hiring process to attract top talent, and implement strategies to retain and develop these professionals
What You'll Bring to the Team:- 7+ years of engineering management experience, 10+ years of experience working in software engineering
- In-depth understanding of Compute products (CPU, GPU, ASIC accelerators) and how customers consume them
- Understanding of key hypervisors and virtualization technologies (eg KVM, VMware ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V) and how they enable cloud computing.
- Familiarity with AI/ML workloads and how they drive compute requirements for the cloud data center.
- Proven experience in building and maintaining scalable and highly available fault-tolerant distributed systems and application architectures
- Knowledge of professional software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Bonus Points- Proven track record of operating production infrastructure to strict SLOs and SLAs, leveraging fleet-wide observability and monitoring to drive reliability, optimization, and capacity planning
- Deep expertise in Linux environments, configuration management, and modern deployment automation to ensure safe, scalable rollouts across large-scale compute fleets
- Demonstrated leadership in ambiguous, fast-moving environments,bringing structure, clarity, and cross-functional alignment during periods of rapid organizational growth
- Active open-source or upstream contributions to cloud infrastructure, containerization, or virtualization technologies (e.g., KVM, QEMU, containerd, Kubernetes)

Compensation RangeCompensation will be paid in the range of up to $285,000 - 335,000 + Bonus. Restricted Stock Units are included in all offers. Compensation to be determined by the applicant's knowledge, education, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
