Job DescriptionUnder guidance from the Associate Vice President for Development and leadership from the Vice President of Advancement and the Vice President for the Division of Health Sciences, the Director of Development (DoD) for the Division of Health Sciences is responsible for building and leading a comprehensive development program for the Division.
Specifically, the Director will concentrate on major and principal gifts to support the initiatives of the Division. This position is expected to work closely with advancement and academic leadership to establish a best-practice philanthropic program within the Division.
The DoD is responsible for ensuring high standards of quality, productivity, consistency, and accuracy for all development-related information. The DoD is knowledgeable about and operates in compliance with all gift administration/tax policies and regulations.
The position is primarily assigned tothe main campus in Stephenville, TX and operates during the University's standard business hours. Due to the nature of development and donor-relations work, the incumbent must be available for occasional evening and weekend assignments. Travel to meet with donors, attend events, and represent Tarleton State University and the Division of Health Sciences may also be required. Serves as Campus Security Authority (CSA).
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIESWith direction from / reporting to the Associate Vice President of Development and in consultation with the Vice President for the Division of Health Sciences and the Vice President of Advancement, the Director of Development will cultivate, solicit, and steward major and principal-gift philanthropy for the Division of Health Sciences. The Director will also, in consult with the Associate Vice President of Development, design programs in areas to include annual giving and donor stewardship, to engage target constituents and sustain consistent giving to the Division at all levels.
The Director also fosters / enables collaboration with the Division of Advancement's donor relations and events office, with specific emphasis on responsibilities associated with major institutional events organized by the Office of the President.
Specifically, the Director will honor the Division's responsibility to support and enable Presidential events and opportunities, and will assist, advance, and service the Office of the President (in collaboration with the Division's donor relations team) in a dutiful and professional fashion.
In addition, the Director will be expected to:
- Cultivate existing relationships to increase current philanthropic support.
- Work closely with Institutional Advancement and Division leadership to develop fundraising priorities.
- Proactively identify new prospects and build relationships with the intent of securing major, leadership, planned, and principal gifts.
- Make personal visits, create proposals, and write digital correspondence as primary methods of donor engagement. Plan, organize, coordinate, and manage daily activities to maximize gift solicitation efforts and events.
- Use all available University resources to identify, cultivate, and solicit major gift support to Division and university programs.
- Collaborate with University partners/other development officers or units to coordinate fundraising strategies for donors with multiple interests.
- May work to design donor and volunteer cultivation events to attract and retain interest in the Division and affiliated programs.
- Proactively represent Tarleton State University and the Division at external events to identify prospects and grow the network of support.
- Develop and manage a portfolio of individual, corporate, and foundation prospects capable of making significant gifts to secure gift commitments. Plan and implement programs that include measurable targets and metrics for each fiscal year (e.g., cultivation, personal visits, stewardship activities, solicitations).
- Work to ensure timely and accurate completion of proposals, pledges, and fund agreements. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of prospect strategies and contact reports, evaluate new prospects, and generate reports and other correspondence as necessary to cultivate prospects.
- Other duties as assigned by advancement leadership in consultation with the Vice President for the Division of Health Sciences.
Minimum RequirementsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each Major Responsibilities/Duty/Task satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree. Master's Degree Preferred.
- Five years of fundraising experience or relevant experience, with preference given to fundraising in higher education.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge of fundraising, public relations, marketing, and/or sales.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated record of completing tasks.
- Knowledge of database, word processing, and spreadsheet applications
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- The ability to be customer service-oriented and bring together various institutional partners with varying interests is essential.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively and harmoniously with others.
- Problem-solving skills, creativity, positivity, and the ability to manage several assignments simultaneously are required
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
- Critical thinking and lifelong learning skills.
- Professional gravitas to represent the university, the Division of Institutional Advancement, and the Division of Health Sciences with honor, enthusiasm, and decorum.
Supervision Received/Given This position may supervise staff or students.
Other Requirements- The scope of the job will require work to be done outside of normal business hours.
Compensation & BenefitsSalary: Commensurate with experience
Salary Range:The target base annual salary is commensurate and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
