Scope of Position

 

In this role, you will lead design and/or consulting team members in a business unit and/or within an office and participate in business development for market(s) assigned. You will participate in the recruitment, development, and retention of design and consulting team members as assigned within a business unit, office and/or region.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead projects as described in the Project Design Director job description.
  • Application of knowledge:
    • Utilizes knowledge of architecture and engineering business practices to lead team members to achieve effective project outcomes and financial goals.
  • Project Management:
    • Monitors project assignments of team members assigned and advises business unit leader when staff are expected to be under - or over - utilized
    • Advises and coordinates with business unit leader on assignments of projects to team members
  • Organizational Change Management:
    • Participates in planning for organizational changes
    • Assists D&C leadership in change management communications plans.
  • Financial:
    • Assists the D&C leadership in developing budgets
    • Monitors utilization and expenses of assigned team members and reports on deviations from budget
  • Strategy
    • Assists the Design and Consulting leadership in developing business strategies as they relate to team members
  • Leadership:
    • Serves as a champion for the D&C and corporate strategies and initiatives
    • Conducts performance reviews and career development for team members
    • May be directed to be responsible for office leadership and team member engagement
    • Participates in the development of D&C policies and procedures as assigned
  • Travel as required
  • Other duties which may be assigned as needed

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture preferred
  • 12 years of progressive experience in a design discipline leading to being an independent lead designer and culminating with successfully performing design management and coordination activities as a manager and/or director.
  • Project management - experience managing multiple large projects with several disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Professional registration or registration eligible
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred
  • Knowledge and experience in design project management including, but not limited to, budgeting, scheduling, proposal writing, staffing, coordination, forecasting, conflict resolution, and change management
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of design document production and presentation software
  • Communications, negotiations, management and leadership skills

Environmental Factors and/or Physical Requirements

 

While performing the duties of this job, this position is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
