Position Overview
The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine (OSU-CVM) invites applications for afull-time Clinical Track facultypositiontoserve asDirector of the Veterinary Clinical Skills Program. This role integratesprogram leadership, administration, and intensive hands-on teachingin clinical and professional skills across the DVM preclinical curriculum.
The successful candidate will play a central leadership role in advancing excellence, innovation, and scholarship in evidence-based veterinary clinical skills teaching, learning, and assessment, while working directly with students in both simulated and live-animal learning environments.
This is apredominantly teaching-intensiveposition with significant administrative and leadership responsibilities.Additionalexperience with clinical education is highly desired. Applicants mustdemonstrateleadership, strong collaborative efforts, and be capable ofpositiveclear and effective communication. Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree. Applicants must havepreviousexperience in clinical veterinary practice and would alsobenefitfrom a background in clinical teaching, adult education, and assessment. Prior academic program administration is an asset, as well as familiarity with instructional technology includingMediasite, Adobe Creative Cloud programs, Canvas/Instructure, H5P, and Microsoft Office products.Previousexperience in creating animal use or human research protocols is an asset.
The Director will work with a team of veterinary faculty and technicians to ensure cohesiveness of teaching materials, standardization of policies, and integration of the Clinical Skills program throughout the OSU CVM Competency-Based Veterinary Education Curriculum. Day-to-day operations will be managed by the Director of Clinical Skills Operations and their team of Clinical Skills technicians and student workers.
The Director will join theProfessional Programs team, led by the Associate Dean for Education and Student Success, Assistant Dean of Education, the Assistant Dean of Student Success, the Director of Communication and Collaboration, the Office of Education, and the Director of Professional Success. The successful candidate will hold a faculty appointment in an academic department within the College of Veterinary Medicine. The specific departmental home will bedeterminedbased on the candidate'sexpertise, scholarly focus, and alignment with institutional needs.
Performance Objectives
Program Leadership and Administration
Provide leadership, administration, and strategic direction for the Veterinary Skills Program.
Support the Associate Dean for Education and Student success in program management, strategic planning, and American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accreditation activities related to teaching, learning, and outcomes assessment.
Collaborate with an expert veterinary technical team overseen by a Director of Clinical Skills Operations to ensure consistent day-to-day operations of the Clinical Skills Program.
Contribute to college and program-level initiatives related to teaching excellence, student success, and curricular innovation.
Teaching and Instruction
Teach extensively in clinical and professional skills learning sessions, working directly with a diverse cohort of DVM students.
Design, implement, and assess hands-on clinical, technical, and professionalskillsinstruction using evidence-based educational practices.
Organize and manage laboratory sessions, skills-based assessments, and simulation-based learning experiences.
Create, manage, andmaintainonline and instructional materials in support ofskillsinstruction.
Ensure standardization of policies across VMEI-III preclinical years in the Clinical Skills curriculum.
Work with OSU CVM faculty toidentifyand enact remediation plans for students struggling with Clinical Skills in their clinical year.
Curriculum Development and Collaboration
Lead and coordinate faculty in the development and delivery of clinical and professionalskillscontent across the curriculum.
Foster interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaboration within the college and university.
Workclosely with other OSU CVM curricularteamleads to ensure curriculum alignment.
Support and contribute to summer and co-curricular programs emphasizing Spectrum of Care training.
Scholarship and Professional Engagement
Lead the Research in Teaching Committee to support collaboration in educationalscholarship.
Contribute to educational grant-writing, animal use and human research protocol development, and present educational innovations and outcomes at regional and national veterinary education meetings.
Engage in continuous improvement informed by educational research and assessment data.
Education and Experience Requirements
Required:
DVM or equivalentveterinarydegree
Experience in clinical veterinary practice
Strong commitment to excellence in veterinary education
Evidence of leadership, collaboration, and effective communication skills
Desired:
Master s degree (or equivalent training) in education, assessment, or a related field
Experience in clinical teaching, adult education, and learner assessment
Prior academic program administration or leadership experience
Familiarity with instructional technologies (e.g.,Mediasite, Adobe Creative Cloud, Carmen/Instructure, Microsoft Office, and related platforms)
Experience contributing to outcomes-based curriculum design or assessment
