Director of Care Role Description

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and support the resident care team through effective coaching, mentorship, and day-to-day guidance.

  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing work environment.

Education & Training

  • Ensure care staff complete required education and competency training.

  • Promote ongoing professional development and clinical excellence.

Financial Stewardship

  • Manage staffing levels in alignment with the Extendicare model of care and legislated hours of care requirements.

  • Support budget development and monitor departmental financial performance through variance analysis.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, licensing requirements, accreditation standards, labour laws, and organizational policies.

Risk Management

  • Identify and address resident care concerns and clinical risks.

Qualifications
