The Director of Care is required to perform all duties in a manner consistent with the Mission, Vision and Values of Dundas Manor (Our Commitment Statement), ensuring quality of care, resident safety, and modelling excellence in customer service.
As a member of the Leadership Team, the Director of Care provides leadership and oversight for all nursing and resident care services, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, person-centered care in accordance with long-term care legislation and best practices. Working closely with residents, families, staff, physicians, community partners, and the interdisciplinary team, the DOC fosters a culture of continuous improvement, excellence in resident outcomes, and compliance with all applicable legislation and Ministry requirements.
The successful candidate will bring strong clinical leadership, human resource management experience, and a commitment to quality improvement. The role requires collaboration within a unionized environment, effective communication and problem-solving skills, and the ability to support staff, residents, and families in a fast-paced long-term care setting.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage all nursing operations, resident care programs, and clinical teams.
- Ensure excellence in quality improvement, risk management, resident safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Develop, implement, and monitor nursing department operational plans, staffing plans, and schedules.
- Recruit, mentor, evaluate, and support nursing staff while fostering positive labour relations and professional development.
- Oversee nursing budgets, expenditures, procurement processes, and resource allocation.
- Collaborate with residents, families, physicians, consultants, community partners, and the interdisciplinary team to enhance resident outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, Ministry requirements, accreditation standards, and internal policies and procedures.
- Lead and support quality improvement initiatives, clinical indicator monitoring, and corrective action planning.
- Promote a safe and healthy work environment and ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
- Support strategic planning, accreditation activities, emergency preparedness, and organizational goals.
- Foster positive relationships with community partners, service providers, and regulatory bodies.
Required Qualifications- Currently registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
- Will be annually licensed by the CNO and provide such documentation annually to Dundas Manor
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BScN) preferred
- Experience in the LTC setting is an asset including one year working with the elderly/LTC sector
- 5 years' leadership and management experience is required
- High proficiency in the use of computers and computer documentation, excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Must demonstrate excellent communication and presentation skills
- Must possess sound clinical skills and knowledge of gerontological nursing practice
- Must demonstrate experience in working successfully as an active member of the interdisciplinary team
- Must have an extensive knowledge of MOHLTC regulations and the Fixing Long-Term Care Act(2021)
- Must have experience in quality improvement initiatives and demonstrate understanding of quality improvement techniques
- Current vulnerable sector screening, clear criminal record
- Be able to work independently, demonstrate and model professional accountability and dedicated to the safety and holistic care of our residents
Assets- Master of Science in Nursing Degree (MScN) or Registered Nurse, Extended Class (RN EC)

Position DetailsThis is a
full-time position, Monday to Friday, with
on-call responsibilities and flexibility to support staff education and operational needs outside of regular business hours as required.
