The Director of Business Development is responsible for developing and executing strategies that support Logan Pass Construction's growth within the mission-critical, data center, commercial, and industrial construction markets. This position identifies new business opportunities, develops lasting client and industry relationships, and helps position the company for successful project pursuits.
Working closely with executive leadership, preconstruction, marketing, and operations, the Director of Business Development develops market intelligence, manages the opportunity pipeline, and coordinates pursuit strategies from initial relationship development through contract award. This role serves as a visible representative of Logan Pass Construction and plays an important part in expanding the company's presence in existing and emerging markets.
What You'll Do
- Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy aligned with the company's growth objectives, target markets, and geographic priorities.
- Identify and pursue new opportunities within the mission-critical, data center, commercial, and industrial construction markets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective clients, developers, owners, consultants, design partners, trade partners, and other industry contacts.
- Develop a deep understanding of clients' organizations, business objectives, project pipelines, decision-making processes, and construction needs.
- Serve as a primary relationship manager for assigned strategic accounts and prospective clients.
- Create account plans and relationship-development strategies for priority clients and markets.
- Maintain a consistent presence with clients before, during, and after project delivery to support long-term partnerships and repeat business.
- Research and evaluate prospective markets, clients, projects, competitors, and industry trends.
- Develop and maintain an accurate pipeline of opportunities, including anticipated project value, timing, probability, key relationships, and next steps.
- Establish and monitor business development goals, performance indicators, and activity metrics.
- Provide regular pipeline updates, forecasts, market intelligence, and recommendations to executive leadership.
- Lead go/no-go discussions and help evaluate opportunities based on strategic alignment, client relationships, competition, resources, risk, schedule, and profitability.
- Develop pursuit strategies and coordinate internal teams throughout the qualification, proposal, interview, and selection processes.
- Partner with preconstruction and operations to ensure pursuit commitments, project approach, pricing strategy, schedule, and delivery capabilities are aligned.
- Collaborate with marketing to develop proposals, presentations, qualification packages, project profiles, client communications, and other pursuit materials.
- Prepare company representatives for client interviews and presentations.
- Coordinate client introductions, meetings, follow-up activities, and relationship-development plans.
- Attend conferences, trade shows, association meetings, networking events, and client functions as a representative of the company.
- Identify and develop relationships with strategic partners that support the company's capabilities and market expansion.
- Support the company's entry into new geographic markets by developing local relationships and gathering relevant market intelligence.
- Work with project teams to gather client feedback, identify areas for improvement, and pursue additional or future work.
- Promote collaboration and effective information-sharing among business development, marketing, preconstruction, and operations.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of client interactions, opportunities, pursuit activity, and outcomes within the company's designated tracking systems.
- Assist with developing and managing the business development budget.
- Provide leadership and direction for the company's business development activities.
- Create consistent processes for identifying, evaluating, tracking, and pursuing opportunities.
- Promote accountability for client follow-up, opportunity management, and business development commitments.
- Support, mentor, and develop business development and marketing team members, as applicable.
- Engage operational leaders and other subject-matter experts in business development activities.
- Encourage a companywide approach to relationship development and client service.
- Represent the company's values, capabilities, and culture professionally in every external interaction.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in business, construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Ten or more years of progressively responsible experience in business development, client relations, construction, real estate development, or a related field.
- Five or more years of experience in a leadership or strategic account-management role preferred.
- Demonstrated success developing client relationships and generating new business within the construction industry.
- Established relationships within the mission-critical or data center construction industry strongly preferred.
- Experience working with owners, developers, general contractors, architects, engineers, consultants, and trade partners.
- Strong understanding of construction procurement, preconstruction, estimating, project delivery methods, and contract-award processes.
- Experience supporting requests for qualifications, proposals, interviews, and negotiated project pursuits.
- Experience developing opportunities in new geographic markets is preferred.
- Proficiency with customer relationship management systems, Microsoft Office, and related business-development tools.
