The position of Director of Assessment is a full-time position. Hours will vary to accommodate the position
responsibilities and supervision. All South College employees are expected to maintain professional standards,
attitude, and performance levels to ensure effective, safe, ethical, and legal performance in all aspects of the
position. All members of the South College community are expected to develop and maintain professional
relationships with all staff, faculty, students, and members of the community and exhibit positive professional
conduct. The Director of Assessment plans, organizes, and manages the assessment process across the
institution.
Responsibilities of the Director of Assessment include but are not limited to:
• Coordinate, evaluate, monitor, and oversee the assessment process for assessing student learning
outcomes for degree programs, service departments, and for institutional goals.
o Analyze current assessment processes to improve institutional effectiveness,
o Keep abreast of national trends related to institutional research, assessment, and
effectiveness and employ appropriate information in planning South College's assessment
efforts, and
o Promote institutional effectiveness in planning, assessment, use of findings for improvement,
and related resource issues in academic, administrative, and institutional environments.
• Provide guidance to and collaborate with the leadership of each academic and administrative area:
o Develop and implement strategic plans and assessment reports, including determining
appropriate student learning outcomes and measures,
o Analyze data and evaluate processes for continual improvement of the area, and
o Monitor the implementation of improvement initiatives.
• Provide leadership in the implementation of the institutional effectiveness processes to include:
o Generating and receiving information and analysis on institutional effectiveness,
o Designing and interpreting surveys, identifying community demographics and needs, and
o Participating in strategic planning and benchmarking.
• Serve as the lead systems administrator for the assessment system, including the setup of new
assessment cycles, plans, and training users on use of the system.
• Provide training on assessment for faculty and staff and provide direction and support for college
personnel to establish effective assessment practices.
• Participate in service activities that contribute to community, professional, and institutional
advancement.
• Promote scholarly academic and professional activities that contribute to the advancement of
knowledge, intellectual growth, and educational excellence.
Requirements
Master's degree in education, research methodology, statistics, or closely related field from an accredited institution; Doctorate degree preferred
Minimum of three years demonstrated experience coordinating academic assessment, competency-based assessment, and/or prior learning assessment programs, preferably at a higher education institution. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: • Knowledge of best practices in assessment in higher education • Demonstrated logical and analytical skills • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to work cooperatively with administrators and faculty/staff • Ability to write quality reports documenting qualitative and quantitative data analyses and interpreting assessment results to make decisions for improvement • Ability to organize projects with multiple components. • Strong technology skills • Time management skills with experience managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines Not Applicable
