Midwest Center for Youth and Families is seeking a Director of Assessment/Referral to join our team!
Available Hours: (exempt/salaried position) Monday - Friday, 8am - 4:30pm
Midwest Center for Youth and Families (a subsidiary of UHS) has been in operation since 1997, serving youth across the country that are in need of psychiatric treatment for variety of mental health issues. The Midwest Center is a respected healthcare provider, fully accredited, 74-bed private, residential treatment facility with locations in Valparaiso and Kouts, IN.
We are dedicated to care of the hearts and minds of our patients with compassion and superior quality behavioral healthcare services through our full-immersion Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) program for children and adolescents ages 10 - 18 who struggle with emotional, behavioral and mental health challenges.
The Patriot Support Program at Midwest Center offers specialized treatment designed to address the behavioral health needs and challenges of the children of active-duty military, reserve, and national guard members.

Position Summary:
Responsible for overseeing the intake, clinical assessment, and referral processes. Ensures that individuals seeking services receive timely, accurate evaluations. This role leads the assessment team, manages relationships with referral sources (hospitals, courts, community mental health centers, schools, and other providers), and ensures compliance with state licensing requirements, payer guidelines, and accreditation standards.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
• Oversee the admissions/intake process from initial contact through assessment and admission decision.
• Supervise and train assessment/referral staff
• Conduct or review clinical/diagnostic assessments to determine appropriate level of care and treatment placement.
• Develops and maintains referral relationships with hosptials, courts, DCS, probation, schools, and community providers.
• Ensure compliance with state regulations, Medicaid requirements, and facility licensing standards.
• Monitor bed capacity, census, and admission flow to optimize occupancy and resource utilization.
• Coordinate with clincial, medical, and ultilization review teams to support continuity of care.
• Track and report key performance metrics.
• Manage crisis/urgent referral situations, including risk assessment for admission appropriateness.
• Ensure documentation meets regulatory, insurance, and accreditation requirements.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to access and admission.

Qualifications
Job Requirements:
• Master's Degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or related behavioral health field is required.
• LCSW, LMHC. LMFT, or LCAC is preferred; Indiana licensure eligible.
• Minimum 3-5 years of clinical experience in behavioral health/residential treatment required.
• Two years of supervisory or leadership role required.
• Strong knowledge of DSM-5 diagnostic criteria, level-of-care, and Indiana behavioral health regulations required.
• Experience with referral network development and community/provider relations required.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and crisis management skills required.
• Must be 21 years old
