Summary

The Director of Advancement Communications manages communication-related assignments/projects/tasks for the Office of Advancement in areas including but not limited to campaign communications, donor stewardship, annual giving, and assists the marketing team and president's office on a variety of tasks/initiatives. The position delivers timely, quality communications that support the University's strategic vision for the future.
Duties and Responsibilities

Content strategies and creative execution that support institutional Advancement's short and long-term fundraising and engagement goals.
  • Testify to personal experience of salvation in Jesus Christ, affirm belief in the University's Statement of Faith, abide by and practice our Life Together Covenant, and both personally agree with and support the Foundational Documents of Taylor University.
  • Create content, materials, and delivery vehicles that support campaign fundraising priorities and promote messaging about the campaign's widespread impact.
  • Serve as writer, editor, and copyeditor for key institutional Advancement communications, including but not limited to donor proposals, stewardship/impact reports, invitations, event programs, press releases, and presentations.
  • Project manage workflows of initiatives, monitoring updates and deadlines, communicating with stakeholders proactively about challenges and project completion.
  • Coordinate development of Advancement-related content for Taylor magazine.
  • Monitor and submit updates of Advancement content on Taylor's website.
  • Represent the Department on University-wide communications teams and projects.
  • Retain and manage outside communications vendors and agencies.
  • Collaborate on projects with University Marketing and the President's Office.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in communications, public relations, or related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices for advancement and fundraising communications preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
  • Ability to translate the University's mission, vision, and strategic plan into persuasive communications.
  • Proven ability to write and edit compelling content, with high degree of creativity.
  • Demonstrated experience with design and other creative visual communications.
  • Excellent copy editing and proofreading skills, with attention to detail.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills; ability to multitask and prioritize projects and tasks.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and deliver results under pressure.
  • Collaborative team player who can also work independently.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)

  • Physical Demands
    • Moderate physical activity. May occasionally require handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds.
    • May require occasional foot travel between university buildings to meet with others.
  • Work Environment
    • Requires working in a typical office environment with sitting and regular use of a computer; the ability to see, hear and use office equipment.
    • Requires as-needed attendance at evening and/or weekend activities.
