About the role:

The MSL Director is an integral member of the US Medical Affairs organization (USMAO) who, reporting to the Head of US Field Medical Affairs, leads a regional or national MSL team. The MSL Director supervises a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSL) in a designated geographic area, focusing on, but not limited to, field direction, talent development, compensation oversight and mentoring/coaching. The MSL Director is accountable for outlining and coordinating the field activities of MSLs in order to achieve the business objectives of US Medical Affairs Oncology (USMAO) therapeutic areas. The MSL Director works closely with the respective Scientific Director and cross-functionally within Takeda to develop and execute MSL field strategies and tactics. Furthermore, the MSL Director monitors MSL field activities for compliance and conveys back results and insights to Takeda, reporting into the Head, US Field Meidcal Oncology, USMAO.

How you will contribute:
  • Provide supervision, direction, guidance, and support to a team of 6-10 MSLs in an assigned region/national within the US:
  • Recruit, hire, develop and retain MSL talent.
  • Provide leadership to MSLs to achieve the goal of educating and supporting HCPs and Payers with clinical/scientific data supporting the value of Takeda products.
  • Support the development of strategic and tactical plans, budgets, goals, metrics and effectively cascade and ensure successful implementation.
  • Actively support the professional development of MSLs.
  • Foster teamwork and continuity across the MSL and USMAO organization.
  • Manage and support the development of MSL field training, evaluation, motivation and performance enhancement activities.
  • Ensure MSL proficiency and subject matter expertise of MSLs.
  • Support MSL development and execution of an effective Territory Management Plan.
  • Oversee the work of MSLs and provide assessment, recognition, and improvement of MSL performance at the individual and group level
  • Assure that the MSL team provides field-based medical support to a range of functions within Takeda, including Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, and the Commercial organization.
  • Ensure that all interactions and activities of MSLs adhere to corporate and healthcare compliance guidance.
  • Manage T&E for direct reports.
  • Maintain clinical, scientific and technical expertise in relevant molecule and disease state areas that enables scientific discussion.
  • Identify and lead special projects aimed at the improvement and operational excellence of the MSL team.
  • Assist with development of program content and materials as relates to relevant molecules/products.
  • Represent MSL team in various internal and external meetings, providing clinical and operational expertise and insights regarding relevant molecules/products.
  • Act as a member of one or more internal cross-functional teams as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Advanced degree in clinical/scientific discipline (MD, PhD, PharmD, or DNP)
  • Minimum of 7 years Medical Affairs experience, with 4+ years Field Medical experience
  • Experience in Heme/Oncology therapeutic area inclusive of clinical practice, clinical trial experience, or track record within a pharmaceutical Medical Affairs organization
  • Oncology Experience is required


Preferred:
  • Myeloma and Leukemia preferred
  • Previous MSL experience preferred
  • Experience leading and partnering on cross-functional teams


Travel Requirements:
  • Approximately 50% travel or more
  • Ability to travel to various meetings or client sites, including overnight trips.
  • Some international travel may be required.
  • Have a valid driver license and safety record

U.S. Base Salary Range:
$192,400.00 - $302,390.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
