Primary Purpose

Lead a core segment of the U.S. income tax function, reporting to the Senior Director of Income Tax, with responsibility for compliance, tax provision, planning, and audit activities. This role directs and develops a team of tax professionals while ensuring accurate tax reporting, strong governance, and alignment with evolving regulations. The Director provides strategic tax leadership to support business initiatives, optimize tax outcomes, and mitigate risk across a complex, multinational environment. This position also drives continuous improvement in tax processes and systems and performs other duties as requested by the Senior Director of Tax and/or U.S. VP of Tax.

Duties & Responsibilities

Tax Compliance & Reporting
  • Oversee preparation and filing of U.S. federal, state, and local income tax returns, including estimates and extensions, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance
  • Direct foreign-related filings (e.g., Forms 1042, 1120-F, FinCEN) and ensure proper reporting of international tax matters
  • Interpret and apply evolving tax legislation and assess impacts to compliance and financial reporting
  • Lead complex technical analysis on federal and state income tax matters
  • Manage federal and state tax audits, including strategy, documentation, and issue resolution

Tax Accounting & Financial Reporting
  • Support the quarterly and annual income tax provision
  • Evaluate and document uncertain tax positions and related disclosures
  • Support ensuring the integrity of tax-related financial reporting, including tax basis balance sheets and earnings & profits (E&P)
  • Maintain strong internal controls over income tax processes and reporting

Tax Planning & Strategy
  • Identify and drive tax planning strategies to optimize tax efficiency and minimize risk
  • Shape and execute long-term tax strategy aligned with enterprise objectives
  • Analyze transfer pricing arrangements and ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and business objectives

Business & Strategic Advisory
  • Partner with finance, legal, and other internal business leaders to provide tax guidance on strategic initiatives and operational decisions
  • Support legal entity restructuring and organizational changes to ensure tax-efficient structures
  • Provide tax leadership on enterprise initiatives impacting U.S. and international operations

M&A and Investments
  • Support mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and investment activities, including due diligence and structuring
  • Evaluate tax implications of transactions and provide actionable recommendations

Leadership & Team Management (Strengthened Section)
  • Lead, develop, and mentor a team of tax professionals, providing direction, coaching, and performance management
  • Set direction, establish priorities, and ensure execution of key income tax activities through effective delegation and review
  • Build team capability and support succession planning within the income tax function
  • Collaborate closely with the Senior Director of Income Tax to align priorities, resources, and strategic objectives
  • Oversee external service providers and ensure effective partnership and delivery
  • Accountable for the performance, quality, and timely delivery of the income tax function's outputs

Stakeholder & External Relationships
  • Partner with internal stakeholders across finance, legal, and business functions
  • Manage relationships with external advisors and collaborate with U.S., European, and local tax authorities
  • Provide insights, reporting, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership to inform decision-making
  • Support government relations efforts related to tax policy and legislation

Process Improvement & Technology
  • Drive continuous improvement in tax processes, automation, and data quality
  • Partner with finance and IT to enhance tax systems, tools, and ERP integrations
  • Promote standardization and scalability across the income tax function

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or related field required
  • 8+ years of progressive corporate income tax experience, including compliance, provision (ASC 740), planning, and audit leadership
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. federal and multi-state tax
  • Experience in multinational or matrixed environments
  • Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills
  • Strong team player with a proven track record of managing their way around a large organization and supporting internal/external stakeholders
  • Proven track record of managing and leading a tax team within a large organization

Preferred Qualification
  • CPA, JD, or Master's in Taxation
  • Big 4 and/or large multinational corporate tax experience
  • Experience with tax technology (e.g., OneSource, Corptax) and ERP systems (e.g., SAP)
  • Experience with transfer pricing, restructuring, and M&A
  • Experience leading process improvement and automation initiatives
