Director, Human Resources (New York)

Position Summary

Marquee Brands is seeking an experienced HR leader to serve as a strategic partner to executive and departmental leadership. This role combines high-level strategic influence with hands-on execution across employee relations, talent acquisition, performance management, compensation and benefits, compliance, and culture-building. The ideal candidate brings both the business acumen to shape organizational strategy and the operational rigor to ensure HR programs run smoothly day to day.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic HR Leadership
  • Partner closely with executive and departmental leaders to align HR strategy with overall business objectives, acting as a trusted advisor on organizational priorities.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to leaders across the organization on organizational design, workforce planning, employee development, and change management initiatives.
  • Design and implement HR programs that strengthen employee engagement, improve retention, and drive performance across all levels of the organization.
  • Leverage workforce metrics and people analytics to inform business decisions, surface emerging trends, and measure the impact of HR initiatives.


Employee Relations
  • Serve as a trusted, confidential advisor to managers and employees on employee relations matters, fostering a fair and respectful workplace.
  • Lead workplace investigations and resolve employee concerns with consistency, discretion, and timeliness.
  • Coach and equip managers to handle performance management, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution effectively.
  • Ensure the consistent, equitable application of company policies and practices across the organization.


Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
  • Lead full-cycle recruitment for professional, management, and leadership-level roles, ensuring a strong candidate experience throughout.
  • Build talent pipelines and succession planning strategies to support long-term organizational needs.
  • Partner with hiring managers to forecast workforce needs and establish effective, efficient hiring practices.
  • Oversee onboarding programs that set new employees up for successful, long-term integration.


Performance Management & Talent Development
  • Own the annual and mid-year performance review cycles from planning through execution.
  • Drive organization-wide goal-setting, feedback, and development initiatives that support individual and business growth.
  • Design and deliver leadership development and learning programs tailored to organizational needs.
  • Support career development, succession planning, and internal mobility to strengthen the talent pipeline.


Compensation & Benefits
  • Partner with leadership on compensation planning, salary benchmarking, bonus programs, and promotion decisions.
  • Monitor market trends and recommend competitive, sustainable compensation and benefits strategies.
  • Collaborate with vendors and brokers to ensure effective, compliant administration of benefit plans.


HR Operations & Compliance
  • Ensure organizational compliance with federal, state, local, and international employment laws and regulations.
  • Maintain and update employee policies, handbooks, and HR procedures to reflect current best practices and legal requirements.
  • Oversee HRIS data integrity, reporting accuracy, and system optimization.
  • Manage HR-related audits, required filings, and employment documentation.
  • Partner closely with payroll to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant employee compensation.


Culture & Employee Engagement
  • Champion a positive, inclusive workplace culture that reflects the organization's values.
  • Lead employee engagement initiatives, including surveys and follow-through action planning.
  • Develop internal communication strategies that promote transparency and strengthen employee connection.
  • Advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives across the organization.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree and/or SHRM-SCP, SPHR, CIPD, or equivalent certification preferred.


Experience
  • 6+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, including a minimum of 3-5 years in an HR leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting executive leadership and managing complex, sensitive employee relations matters.
  • Strong working knowledge of employment law, compliance requirements, compensation, benefits, and performance management.
  • Experience with both US and UK HR compliance.
  • Proven track record in compensation and bonus planning, organizational design, and change management.
  • Experience in executive coaching, employee relations, talent development, and succession planning.
  • Experience with M&A integration.

Salary $130,000-$160,000 + target bonus
