Support Office Director, Human Resources Permanent Full Time

Position Summary:

We are seeking a strategic and experienced Director, Human Resources to lead the organization's HR and Occupational Health & Safety functions. Reporting to Chief Operating Officer, this role is responsible for developing and executing HR strategies that support organizational goals, foster a high-performing workplace culture, and ensure compliance with employment and workplace safety legislation.

The Director provides leadership to the HR team, partners with organizational leaders on workforce planning and employee relations, fosters positive labour relationships with the unions, and oversees programs that support recruitment, retention, engagement, leadership development, and organizational effectiveness. The Director is also accountable for Benefits, HRIS and Health & Safety.

The Director, Human Resources will:
  • Model the organization's mission, vision, and values, consistently representing Covenant professionally and positively
  • Collaborate effectively as a professional team player, supporting the achievement of Covenant's mission, vision, and values
  • Engage and mobilize teams to fulfill Covenant's mission, vision, values, and strategic objectives

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Develop and execute HR strategies aligned with organizational priorities and workforce needs
  • Act as a strategic HR partner to senior leadership, providing insight and guidance on workforce planning, talent management, employee relations, and organizational development
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, succession planning, performance management, employee engagement, and retention initiatives
  • Provide expert guidance to leaders on complex employee and organizational matters
  • Foster an inclusive, respectful, and high-performing workplace culture
  • Oversee Occupational Health & Safety programs and ensure compliance with Alberta legislation and regulatory requirements
  • Monitor HR metrics and workforce trends to support evidence-based decision-making
  • Develop and maintain HR policies, programs, and practices that support operational excellence and minimize organizational risk
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including healthcare partners, professional associations, and government agencies
  • Lead, mentor, and support the HR and OHS teams to achieve service excellence
  • Manage departmental budgets, resources, and continuous improvement initiatives


Qualifications:

Education
  • Degree in Business Administration, Commerce, or Management with a major in Human Resources or a bachelor's degree combined with a diploma in Human Resources
  • CPHR designation preferred
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered

Experience
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive HR management experience
  • Extensive experience leading and handling complex employee and labour relations matters
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in talent acquisition, organizational development, employee relations, and workforce planning
  • Experience in a unionized healthcare environment is considered an asset
