Responsibilities

The Director, Communications, Audio, is responsible for leading theBroadcast Audio and Communicationsteam and overseeing the successful execution of complex audioand communicationsproduction projects across multiple markets. This role provides strategic leadership for project delivery, technical excellence, operational performance, resource planning, client satisfaction, and financial results. The Director partners with Sales, Market Leadership, Operations, Engineering, and Production teams to develop technical solutions, drive operational consistency, optimize resource utilization, and ensure exceptional client experiences while achieving company profitability goals.

Essential Functions
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for theBroadcast Audio and Communicationsteam.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies that improve project execution, quality, efficiency, and profitability.
  • Partner with Account Executives, Market Leadership, Engineering, and Operations to support business development and deliver technical solutions for clients.
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and successful delivery of complex audio projects across multiple markets.
  • Establish project management standards, processes, and best practices to ensure consistent execution across the organization.
  • Review project scopes, budgets, schedules, labor plans, and technical requirements to ensure operational readiness.
  • Provide executive oversight for high-profile, complex, and technically challenging productions.
  • Lead project reviews to identify lessons learned and opportunities for operational improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety policies, operational procedures, and company quality expectations.
  • Collaborate with Inventory, Logistics, Engineering, and Operations to optimize equipment availability and resource planning.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, vendors, consultants, and industry partners.
  • Support sales efforts by participating in client meetings, technical presentations, proposal reviews, and solution development.
  • Lead recruitment, coaching, performance management, and professional development for AudioTechnicalProject Managers.
  • Evaluate emerging audio technologies and recommend investments that enhance operational capabilities and client offerings.
  • Develop departmental budgets and manage operating expenses.
  • Provide regular operational, financial, and project performance reporting to executive leadership.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Expert knowledge of professional audiocommunicationsystems, entertainment technology, TV/Film,and live event production.
  • Advanced understanding ofRiedel Artist and related equipment, Clear-Com Arcadia and related equipment, as well as other related audio technologies.
  • Understanding of RF system design and best practices
  • IP networking fundamentals
  • AES67, Dante, VLANs, QoS, PoE, multicast, and network troubleshooting
  • Fiber optic communications systems
  • Extensive knowledge of project management methodologies within live entertainment and production environments.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, system design, and large-scale production workflows.
  • Experience reviewing AutoCAD drawings, Vectorworks designs, technical specifications, and system layouts.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and profitability analysis.
  • Experience utilizing CRM, ERP, asset management, and project management software.
  • Strong understanding of labor planning, logistics, inventory management, and equipment utilization.
  • Ability to evaluate technical risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and client relationship management skills.
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive organizational alignment.
  • Strong understanding of emerging entertainment technologies and industry trends.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 50% of the workday.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, climb stairs, and navigate event sites for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to inspect production equipment, technical installations, drawings, and project documentation.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in office, warehouse, and live event environments.
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering, Entertainment Technology, Business Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in live event production, entertainment technology, or professional audio.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience managing technical project teams or production operations.
  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale, complex entertainment production projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of professional audio systems, production technologies, and industry best practices.
  • Experience managing departmental budgets, financial performance, and operational planning.
  • Relevant manufacturer certifications (Riedel, Clear-Com, RTS, Motorola etc.) are preferred.

CA, CO, IL, NY, NJ and NV:  The pay range for this position is estimated to be $150,000 - $200,000 per year. Actual pay to be determined by the experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant combined with location and alignment with market data. Additionally, we offer comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement savings plan with matching contributions.
