Shared Services: Animal Care Facility- (Full-Time, Day Shift) -

Job Summary: The Director-Animal Care Facility and Attending Veterinarian oversees the operations of the Animal Care Facility and ensures that appropriate clinical care, facilities, housing, personnel, and equipment are provided to meet the needs of Loma Linda University Health clients in accordance with regulatory and compliance standards. Oversees the on and off campus care and use of animals in research, teaches animal users proper treatment of animals, and plays an active role in the committee for care and use of laboratory animals. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent required. Minimum five years of experience in veterinary or animal care facility required or successful completion of residency in Laboratory Animal Medicine.

Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrates commitment to communication, customer service, organization and ongoing improvement of University Animal Care and Use programs. Direct knowledge of AAALAC International accreditation process. Strong knowledge and familiarity with regulations, standards, and guidelines for care and use of vertebrate animals in teaching, research, and service, including but not limited to Animal Welfare Act, Health Research Extension Act, AWA Regulations, and ACF SOPs. Leadership skills with workforce management and budget oversight. Strong consultative skills with the confidence and ability to enforce rules and make quick informed decisions. Ability to effectively function as part of a team, and in collaboration with diverse audiences. Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion, tact, and confidentiality. Able to read; write and speak with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Access); operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position. Relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; provide leadership; be assertive and consistent in enforcing policies ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, rules and laws; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Think critically; work independently; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments; compose written material; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.

Licensures and Certifications: California Veterinary License preferred. American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) certification eligible.
