Project Overview:

This position specifically supports the Project Estimator/Lead Cost in the development of Pumped Hydro Storage projects. Project estimating responsibilities include supporting the planning, preparation, and presentation of project estimates. Project estimates include direct costs, construction indirects, professional services, escalation, contingency, and commercial terms. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and joint venture partners is central to how we work.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will support the Project Estimator/Lead Cost and help provide technical guidance to promote consistency across projects, customers, and business lines. You will provide detailed review and support for capital cost estimates, cash flow and working capital assessments, and the preparation of estimate documentation. Your recommendations will help ensure accurate cost estimates and support project profitability and success. #LI-ML1

Major Responsibilities:

  • Supports the Project Estimator/Lead Cost in providing technical leadership and promoting consistency in approach and outcomes across Pumped Hydro Storage projects and customers
  • Develops and coordinates with the Project Estimator/Lead Cost estimate approaches, budgets, and schedules
  • Performs high-level confirmation of developed quantities for completeness and reasonableness
  • Reviews and incorporates supply chain recommendations into the estimate
  • Provides guidance in the development and review of criteria for development of pricing structure
  • Produces cost estimates using crew-based approach including formation of crews from multiple craft and equipment selection
  • Prepares cost studies and presentations, trend estimates, life cycle cost estimates, comparative metrics, and reconciliations for project estimate validation
  • Prepares and coordinates the recommended contingency ranges and escalation rates to be presented to the project team
  • Supports the team in identifying risk items, assigning risk levels to portions of the project work, and identifying measures to mitigate risk
  • Supports and, as assigned, leads estimate reviews and presentations to project management and senior management
  • Prepares basis of estimate documentation


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 15-17 years of relevant work experience
  • Requires Pumped Hydro Heavy Civil estimating experience
  • Requires Heavy Bid (HCSS) estimating software experience
  • Experience leading joint venture estimate development


Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong knowledge and experience with heavy civil resource based estimating development and Pumped Hydro storage projects
  • Preferred experience and knowledge of implementation of Heavy Bid (HCSS) software applications
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate estimate plans, status of estimates and management review packages
  • Preferred experience with selection of construction equipment related to Pumped Hydro projects
  • Demonstrated delivery of project estimates in self perform and joint venture arrangements
  • Preferred experience of multiple pumped hydro project
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a wide range of environments across multiple time zones and nationalities
  • Advanced ability to perform productivity analysis of construction operations and verify results by staffing and crew analysis of work operations by craft
  • Advanced understanding of cost index and escalation projections
