Job/Department Summary:The Deputy Athletic Director for Compliance and Student Engagement serves as a senior leader within Chico State Athletics and is responsible for the strategic oversight, administration, and daily management of the department's NCAA compliance program and student-athlete engagement initiatives. This position serves as the department's chief compliance administrator and ensures adherence to NCAA, conference, CSU, and University policies, procedures, and regulations.
This position provides direct supervision and leadership for key areas that support student-athlete engagement, campus and community partnerships, and department operations, including Student-Athlete Success and External Operations. The position also serves as sport administrator for designated intercollegiate athletics programs, providing oversight, guidance and support to assigned teams, and serves as the department's Deputy Title IX Coordinator, and participates fully on the Athletics senior leadership team.
Required Education and Experience:Bachelor's degree in sports administration, higher education, business, or a related field.
ANDFive years of progressively responsible professional experience in intercollegiate athletics administration, including significant experience in NCAA compliance, student-athlete services, sport oversight, or a related area.
IN ADDITION:- Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying NCAA rules, conference regulations, and institutional policies.
- Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and monitoring systems, policies, and procedures that ensure compliance and institutional control.
- Demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience over professional staff and complex functional areas.
Preferences:Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills:
- A master's degree in sports administration, higher education, business, law, or a related field
- Significant NCAA compliance experience
- Experience serving as a primary or senior compliance administrator
- NCAA Division II or CCAA experience
- Experience in public higher education or the California State University system
- Sport administration experience, supervision of multiple professional staff or functional areas
- Title IX coordination or athletics-related student conduct experience
- Use of NCAA compliance software or student information systems, compliance investigations or violation reporting
- Student-athlete development or SAAC programming, or athletics event management and external operations experience.
- Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters with sound judgment, discretion, and integrity.
- Commitment to supporting a diverse and inclusive environment and to advancing student-athlete well-being and success.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain complex policies and regulations to varied audiences.
Time Base: Full-time
Pay Plan: 12/12
Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm, Summer: Mon-Thurs 7:00am-5:30pm
Anticipated Hiring Range: $90,000 - $100,000 per year. Salary commensurate with education and experience of the individual selected.

This position is a Higher Education Employer-Employee Relations Act (HEERA) designated managerial position and comes under the Management Personnel Plan (MPP) of the California State University. Individuals appointed to management positions serve at the pleasure of the President or designee. They are excluded from the collective bargaining process, are not subject to probationary service, and do not receive tenure or permanent status. This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
