Departmental Shift Supervisor
Location: Commonwealth Cooperage
Reports To: Shift Superintendent

Role Overview

The Shift Supervisor is an energetic leader responsible for overseeing a production line that manufactures and assembles white oak barrels. This position manages operations within a specific cooperage department, working to meet production goals while efficiently utilizing resources and budgets consistently.

Skilled in adaptability and problem-solving, the Supervisor juggles multiple priorities and leverages resilience and creativity to address daily challenges in the manufacturing environment.

As a leader, the Supervisor builds strong relationships with hourly team members, inspiring engagement and dedication to barrel making. By taking initiative, the Supervisor motivates the team to reach departmental and production goals. Through steady encouragement and support, they foster confidence in their colleagues and lead by example, embodying the core values of Independent Stave Company and Commonwealth Cooperage.

Compensation: $90,000-$115,000, salary and bonuses, based on experience
Primary Functions & Responsibilities: Departmental Production Supervisor
  • Manage daily production, track metrics, maintain production reports, identify trends, solve problems, and implement improvements.
  • Meet quality standards and production goals.
  • Follow safety guidelines to keep staff safe.
  • Communicate and work effectively with other shift supervisors and superintendents to ensure proper production flow between departments and shifts.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the barrel industry and technical expertise in making barrels.
Managing The Departmental Team: Departmental Production Supervisor
  • Collaborate with HR in the hiring and onboarding of new staff.
  • Train, supervise, and delegate tasks; develop employees while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and production standards.
  • Maintain clear communication with staff and management via regular meetings and one-on-one discussions.
Cultural & Professional Leadership: Departmental Production Supervisor
  • Being a positive leader that sets a good example (based on the company and cooperage core values)
  • Maintain an intimate knowledge of the cooperage's strategic and departmental goals and determine how the department can contribute to the completion of the goals
  • Prioritize tasks and manage time to ensure that budgets, goals, and projects are completed on time.
Other Responsibilities: Departmental Production Supervisor
  • Participate in ongoing leadership and management training.
  • Participate in safety training for the entire cooperage.
  • Attend relevant leadership meetings at the Cooperage and Independent Stave levels as required.
