Job SummaryGeorgia Gwinnett College (GGC) invites applications for the Department Chair of English position starting July 1st, 2027. Priority reviews of candidates will begin on November 6, but the position will remain open and accepting applications until filled.
The English department is where many GGC students begin their college work, teaching a substantial part of the core curriculum and offering degrees in Creative Writing, Literary and Cultural Studies, Writing Studies, Interdisciplinary Studies, and Teacher Certification. The Department Chair provides academic, personnel, fiscal, and operational leadership for the department and represents it to college administration and external partners. This is a full-time, 12-month administrative faculty appointment.
The Chair works collaboratively with faculty and staff toward the common goal of student success, supporting their teaching and scholarship, and helping shape the department's direction through shared decision-making. The candidate must have the ability to effectively manage the operating budget, conduct performance evaluations, guide curriculum review and SACSCOC compliance, direct course scheduling, lead hiring and recruitment, resolve student academic issues, and lead the department's standing committees.
Required Qualifications - A Ph.D. in English or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution
- A record of teaching, scholarly achievement, and service that merits appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor
- At least three years of administrative leadership experience in higher education, such as service as a department chair, assistant or associate chair, program director or coordinator, or committee chair, or the equivalent
Preferred Qualifications - Experience with SACSCOC accreditation, program level learning outcomes assessment, budget management, and curriculum development
- Experience supporting various student populations and mentoring faculty at different career stages
